Is anti-gayness manly?
Matt Chancey is a a member of the extremely radical, anti-gay Vision Forum group. In 2006, Matt Chancey lent his name to a group letter calling on then-governor Mitt Romney to overturn Massachusetts' marriage equality. Matt's wife Jennie runs a site called Ladies Against Feminism, where much anti-gay/ anti-women's rights sentiment is peddled.
Matt Chancey is a finalist in The Art of Manliness Man of the Year contest, which is sponsored by Old Spice:

You know, the same Old Spice who uses this gay dude as a spokesman:
Now, we're of course not saying he should be disqualified because of his very far-right beliefs. We're just saying that if he wins, it might be in Old Spice's interest to know that they are in bed with a man who thinks, among other regressive things, that their company spokesman is a second class citizen.
**And he's currently in the lead. Howie Farmer is in 2nd.
**Oh, and in case you're wondering: The Old Spice people are def. seeing this post. We can tell by our stats page.
**UPDATE, 12/15: Well, Matthew won. And as Queerty notes, Old Spice an Art of Manliness put up some ass-covering text about the finalists' beliefs at some point after our initial post went up:

In his picture on the site, the guy is also sitting with Sudanese "Freedom Fighters" the same freedom fighters from a group that works to enlist children I wonder?
I went to the site and voted for another guy, his name is Aaron Blue, and I thought that voting for someone else might help get this guy off the top. I encourage everyone to go vote for someone else, look at the Aaron guy and see if you like him like I do. Here is one way to keep this guy from winning.

FUNNY THING -- He lost a bid for GOP seat to a candidate named TWINKLE and she lost the election to a Democrat -- the only GOP race that was lost to a Dem in that state.
SAD THING -- If you read his blog (like his travel by train) he seems like this really great guy -- he's reflective, honorable, and very courteous. But a few clicks away you see he is also this enormously misguided and devoutly conservative fundamentalist that is so scary -- in ways HE will never be able to understand.
When you read his wife's OLD SPICE nomination you want to vote for him - then you ask -- well... DEFINE "principled leaders", DEFINE "values", DEFINE "good"... THOSE are the freaking scary answers...
ALSO - note how they both think the best movies are pre-1959-- when men were men, and OZZY and HARRIET defined the fictional American Ideal that NEVER existed. Maybe Hollywood does influence us ALL... LOL
AND OF COURSE -- since she doesn't think she should be able to VOTE -- is it odd that she feels political enough to nominate?

To judge Chancey's politics by the company he keeps, he's further to the right and more hateful to gays than anything that has yet appeared in this thread. He is closely associated with Vision Forum, a Christian Reconstructionist group that believes Old Testament law should be the law of the land. That would include imposing the penalty of stoning upon disobedient children, non-Christians, blasphemers...and gays.
I'm sure there are people further to the right politically than Christian Reconstructionists, but you'd have to look in backwoods Idaho for people wearing swastikas to find them.

Um I would like to update the race as Howie Farmer is now in the lead with 26% and Mr. Chancey at 21%. This is as of 8:25pm PST.

I am 38 years old and I have used Old Spice since I was 16. What can I say? It boosts my confidence. But if that fucker wins this contest I am filling it with piss and sending it back to the factory. Asshole.

Spread the word - Howie Farmer is the man. Shame he currently is 2% behind Chancey.
If Chancey DOES win with his sickening views, then OLD SPICE is going to have a ton of bad publicity and have to do some serious PR with women AND homosexuals, who have significant purchasing power compared to 19th Amendment repealing Christians. Just a thought.
