Video: We crushed gay people's souls this year -- now give us $$$$!
December is fundraising time in America. It's a month where groups exploit end-of-year nostalgia for their own gain, hoping the season's warm feelings will translate into financial contributions. For the anti-gay movement, those "warm feelings" come from hurting gay people:
Yuck.
But you know what we find funny about the video? That the foremost "victory" they tout is in the arena of marriage, especially in California, when if there is any group that actually LOST in terms of marriage equality in '08, it was the Alliance Defense Fund. In California, the ADF's Glen Lavy was in the Supreme Court making his case for keeping gays barred. The Supreme Court, however, rejected his side's arguments. Also, among other marriage cases: The legal beagles also tried, unsuccessfully, to stop New York state from recognizing out-of-state unions. In fact, as far as their gay nup-barring court activities are concerned, it seems to have been a pretty crummy year for this "pro-marriage" outfit. It would seem to us that the anti-gay movement succeeded DESPITE the ADF's inability to effectively win in court, not because of it.
The group did, however, spend considerable amounts of time bitching about the "judicial activism" that keeps them from being able to successfully do their job. So if that sort of excuse-making is worth your cash, "pro-family" folks, then by all means give the ADF some dollars. We, however, will keep funding legal outfits that will actually WIN in court: The pro-equality legal eagles that are making accurate legal arguments that jibe with constitutional guarantees and protections.

Your thoughts
I've posted a comment on that video...I said:
'Regardless of how you feel about marriage between same gender couples, eliminating a right that has been affirmed by the Supreme Court is wrong and immoral. Your group should be ashamed of itself for supporting discrimination.'
Since these groups with anti-gay agendas are notorious for only allowing comments that support and affirm their own twisted logic, let's see how long it lasts.

So, JH, what I hear you saying is that we should encourage the radical fundies to support the ADF to the exclusion of all other anti-gay groups. Because just about every penny that they give them is effectively a penny that they gave to the benefit of gay rights.

That's one interpretation, Dick. Although I think I'd rather them give it to us for knowing the "pro-family" movement better than they know themselves.

"After much prayer we know we need 8 million"
How does that work exactly? What, you pray to God and he reaches down from the sky and tells you, "Hmm... yeah... you need about 8 mil to do my work next year. Good luck with that."
I mean, seriously? They don't have accountants to calculate their budget, they just sit around and pray?

Kristi,
You mentioned that "groups with anti-gay agendas are notorious for only allowing comments that support and affirm their own twisted logic". I've found the same treatment from the pro-gay Daily Kos, except for on their site, rather than just "deleting" my respectful but disagreeing comments, they "hid" them from public viewing, and this was done without sending me one word regarding why they were doing this, or even what they were doing. I think the treatment runs both ways, though on the site I run, we welcome all viewpoints, provided they're respectful. I wonder why pro-gay sites like the Daily Kos feel the need to drown out respectful opposing views?

Speaking of comment policies, I just read Good As You's policy, and applaud you for it. Facilitating healthy, respectful dialogue is a great way to go.

I find it kind of funny that the ADF was complaining the No on Prop 8 protests saying they were "Against the Democratic process" while they say fit not to method that the Pro-lifers were also protesting against the democratic process handed down by the Judges in Roe v Wade.

Waaaah, Marcus. Another homobigot who whines when his hatred isn't given equal treatment with non-hateful language. And I don't care how "civilly" you voice it -- being anti-gay is hateful.

This grieves Me to say, but I must tell You What the Lord has said” Tell the people of the Homosexual community that whether they believe in Me or not, I am still The Lord God almighty, and have created all that there is, including them, The only reason they are here is because of my people praying for them, do they think that all the sexual sicknesses are by chance. Do they not understand that that is my warning to them.
Because of this I have had great patience with them, But they are about to ware me out.
They have come against MY people, that have spent countless hours praying for Them.
I The Lord God Almighty am about to send a plague against them. This Plague will make aids seem like a common cold, there will be no way to stop it, than
THEY WILL KNOW THAT I AM LORD!!
When They have contacted this plague, If they will turn to ME, and believe in MY SON, I will hear their cries and heal them. I will allow a short time for this message to get out to them. And forThem to respond
Before I send this plague.”
Wow, Wow, Wow Let us have a word of Prayer, I ask all my brothers and sisters in Christ to Join in with Me.
Oh LORD of all Earth and Heaven, ruler overall man kind, and Your Loving Son Jesus Christ, we humble ourselves in fasting and prayer before You, for those of the Homosexual community, and all sexual immoral people of the Earth Lord, that You would set their hearts to see the sin in their lives, repent and turn to You.
That they may come out of the darkness and into the light, From death into life.
Eternal life with You and Your Son, in peace and joy forever and ever.
We say these things in the Name of JESUS CHRIST, Our LORD and Our SAVIOR
AMEN.

wjin obviously suffers from some kind of SERIOUS mental illness. Hearing voices - delusions of grandeur - a good dose of paranoia. These symptoms spell a major personality disorder to me.
And I thought the USA was a therapy loving nation!
wjin - I suggest you see a psychiatrist. And I suggest you do it soon.
Your imaginary friends might not be able to heal you....
