What comes after 'L'? Going penal, apparently

by Jeremy Hooper

200901161549As we all get set to play Lesbian Clue when "The L Word" kicks off its sixth and final season this Sunday, Showtime is now starting to confirm the internet rumors about the potential spinoff series that would allow the Alice character to soldier on. And since it's Friday afternoon, why don't we go ahead and discuss this frivolous queer development, shall we?

As we've already heard, the new series will take Ms. Pieszecki to prison (for killing Jenny?), in what sounds like a lighter lesbi-version of "Oz." But Showtime's Robert Gleenbatt is also now confirming that the pilot involves actresses Famke Janssen, Laurie Metcalf, and Melissa Leo, and that the new show will be less of a Sapphic series and more of a mix of gay and straight characters. Also, Showtime has yet to actually see the finished pilot, so it's not a certainty that new show will even happen, or happen on Showtime if it does indeed move forward.

What else? Well here, AfterEllen has much more on the After "L"-in' series:

Showtime Confirms "L Word" Spinoff Details at TCA Press Tour [AE]

Oh, my poor partner. He thought he'd get his televised parole after this, the last season. Little does he know that he might have to wait years for Alice to get hers before this soapy, Chaiken-headed journey ends!

Shhh, don't tell him.
I want to make sure I have a camera ready to catch the look on his long-suffering face.

Your thoughts

A lighter lesbi-version of "Oz."? Sounds more like an American version of "Bad Girls" to me...eight years on a network, then a reincrnation as a Broadway musical. Helen & Nikki would be so proud.
