But if hired by bread company, can we be a roll model, Pete?

by Jeremy Hooper

Plan on curing cancer? Gonna triumph over adversity to win multiple awards in your field? Have a start-up business idea that's going to take you from the unemployment line to the billionaire's club? Or do you want to eschew personal gain so that you can dedicate your life to feeding and clothing homeless youth?

200902061027-1Well don't even bother doing any of that if you're gay. For according to the increasingly unhinged words of rabid anti-gay activist Peter Labarbera, your sexual orientation has already ruined your chances of ever being seen as admirable.

This is what Pete has to say about newly appointed Chicago schools chief Ron Huberman:

"It's sad to see that Chicago public students will have an open homosexual activist as a role model. Because when you're open and proud about homosexuality, which is a sin, you are by definition a poor role model"
Chicago schools - incubator for homosexual indoctrination [AFTAH]

Unlike, of course, a man who dedicates his entire existence to hurting people, encouraging harassment, going undercover to photograph fetish and BDSM events, and fighting for policies that keep a certain portion of the population seen as less-than-equal in the eyes of civil law. TOTAL role model, that guy.

But don't be too offended by this unbelievably myopic way of writing off your entire life as wasted, gays. After all, Pete is a man who thinks that discrimination is, by definition, "pro-family. We would hardly put him up there with Webster's in terms of accurately pinpointing a word or phrase's meaning.

Your thoughts

Heaven forbid we should have role models too. School could have been so much more pleasant.

Actually Peter's attempted denunciation of Huberman simply because of his orientation is somewhat a victory for us.

In the past, Peter and company would trot out all of those discredited and distorted statistics about "homosexuality being a dangerous lifestyle." I think blogs like this are doing a great job in neutralizing those lies.

But EDUCATION is so important: Remember.

ARTIST: Rodgers and Hammerstein
TITLE: You've Got to Be Carefully Taught

[South Pacific]1949

You've got to be taught to hate and fear
You've got to be taught from year to year
It's got to be drummed in your dear little ear
You've got to be carefully taught

You've got to be taught to be afraid
Of people whose eyes are oddly made
And people whose skin is a different shade
You've got to be carefully taught

You've got to be taught before it's too late
Before you are six or seven or eight
To hate all the people your relatives hate
You've got to be carefully taught
You've got to be carefully taught

LaBabs is merely frightened since it knows the end of it's way of thinking is painfully close to extinction and lashing out in it's death throes.
