Darkness to befall A Different Light
More sad news for lit-queer-ary types. A few weeks after news broke about the closure of NYC's Oscar Wilde Bookshop, now comes word that West Hollywood's A Different Light will also soon insert its final bookmark:
Prominent L.A. Gay Bookstore 'A Different Light' to Close [Towle]
Another location, this one in San Francisco will remain open. But boys and girls, it's becoming increasingly clear that bookish retailers that cater to our people's wants and needs (and independent bookstores in general) are on the proverbial ropes. The only way we can fight that is to go into these stores and fork over a few bones. A book, a magazine, a tiny little magnet -- just buy something!
Look, we love the Kindle as much as the next techy queer. But these places, long host to gay-centric events and engagements, are worth preserving. Our dollar is the only tourniquet that can stop the bleeding.
Your thoughts
I think that people outside of California can make some difference by shopping at http://www.adlbooks.com/
