Rebooking Bill: Activists seek early checkout time for Clinton reservation
Years before Doug Manchester's Prop 8 donation came to light, yours truly stayed at San Diego's Manchester Grand Hotel. So as one of the hotel's former head-resters, I totally know how good their breakfast buffet is. It's a little pricey, but you get LOTS of stuff for your money. Bagels, waffles, omelettes, and an impressive juice assortment. Even for a vegetarian like myself, the spread had plenty of offerings to justify the cost.
Now, it's a near certainty that former President Clinton, even after his heart scares, still appreciates a nice breakfast buffet. However, we think/hope that he, like us, puts principled stands before papaya-mango juice. Which is exactly why we think/hope that he, an opponent of anti-Democratic marriage amendments like Prop 8, would be interested in at least hearing our community's concerns about a speaking engagement he has scheduled for the Manchester Grand:
A group of leaders which includes San Diego City Councilmember Todd Gloria, Rick Jacobs of the Courage Campaign, Jess Durfee of the DNC, activist Cleve Jones, and Californians Against Hate founder Fred Karger, have requested that Clinton not violate their boycott and move his speech to the International Franchise Association to a new location in light of Manchester's $125,000 contribution to pass Proposition 8.
Coalition Asks Bill Clinton to Respect Prop 8 Boycott of SD Hotel [Towle]
It remains to be seen if William J. will heed the reasoned calls, or even acknowledge them. Though based on his past gay marriage form, we fear he'll just compromise by moving from this outwardly marriage-unfriendly place to a more stealth but still anti-equality dome-a.
Of course SD is a military town, so don't be surprised if Bill neither asks nor tells gays what's in his/their hearts.
Your thoughts
I really don't know if Clinton can be of any help in the situation, but still, once he himself suffered because of "gender problem". Good luck!
