'Silencing'? Try Sing'n lies!
A few days ago we told you about "Silencing Christians," a website and video campaign that those reliable lil at the American Family Association have cooked up for the sole reason of making gays look like brute militants hellbent on ruining evangelicals' lives. Well would you believe us if we told you that an actual network affiliate, Michigan's WOOD-TV, is planning on running that very same propaganda on their airwaves? On Valentine's Day, no less?!
Pissed? Ya should be. Because while people should have a right to buy time for their own products and whatnots, it is a simple fact that if such unabashed detestation were being directed towards any other group on the face of the planet, there would be no debate on this matter. If these outright lies were being directed towards Blacks, Jews, or yes, Christians, the program would be nixed faster than you can say "there's-no-actual-info-in-this-mercial." But since gays are a subject and their decent treatment is still widely considered to be a matter for debate, we're actually having to explain to people why this is wrong.
We find the whole thing to be more annoying than those commercials that run incessantly to remind us about the (now-delayed) digital TV transition. If you do as well, then head to the following HRC link to see what you can do to take action:
**MAJOR UPDATE: The station will not air the program!!! The station manager released the statement: "The Offer is now off the table":

Good job, Jeremy. We need to stay on top of this because it is how religious right factoids start. In the past, they could take an incident like this and gain all sorts of mileage because no one is there to push what actually happened.

I've always seen it as a delicious irony that the people claim to be getting silenced are almost always the loudest. Of course, when someone really is getting silenced, we likely won't know it.

These people honestly make me sick sometimes.
Really, they do.
The only thing good about this is that we're not in it alone, no matter how it may seem that way at times.

ok. this is great that the station decided to pull the program, but 2 things come to mind.
the station didn't exactly make an overwhelming statement of support, or declare their desire to present a balanced opinion, or even make a statement about discrimination.
and
the AFA will spin this as proof of their premise that they are being silenced.

"Those perverts are destroying lives and evilly recruiting children into their disgusting agenda, and should be suppressed into non-existence by any means necessary!!!"
"That's not very nice."
"NO CHRISTIAN BASHING MY FIRST AMENDMENT RIGHTS NOOOOOOOOO"

Keltic: I agree on both points.
The fact that it was ever even up for consideration is concerning.

I went to that site and tried to view the video but had to stop after like 20 minutes...
Was funny to see that it contained all the usual suspects, such as Janice Crouse, Wendy Wright and Matt Barber.
