Video: HR in NY for all to C
While we were in Long Island doing Limoncello shots and eating birthday cake (there's no joke there -- that's literally what we were doing), the Human Rights Campaign was in NYC last Saturday night to celebrate/ raise funds/ fete politicians and celebrities of both obvious and debatable deservedness/ put their logo on anything that would sit still long enough. Here's Olbermann's speech from said event:
Oh sure, they got big daddy MSNBC. But did their dessert have buttercream roses? Huh? Did it? We think not.
VIDEO: Corzine, Schumer, Smith, Gillibrand and Olbermann at the 2009 New York Gala Dinner [HRC BackStory]
**MORE VIDEOS: Malcolm Smith (giving the speech we wrote about on Sunday), Gov. Jon Corzine, Sen. Chuck Schumer, and Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand:
Your thoughts
Sorry, folks...a little comment trial, cuz it wasn't working a while ago. Real one next if this works.

K, better now. Anyway..I enjoyed the videos. Especially KO's. These people do say things at these 'friendly' dinner things that they might not otherwise. Corzines was off. M.Smith didn't have much to say.
Here is gist of Schumer: Let's just hope he is right.
He thanks Joe S and KO for their work. ...and everyone who helped 'get us 58, soon 59 State Senators'.. Now we will be able to talk about the issues in a rational, thoughtful and humane way, instead of having to deal with bigoted hateful argurments which have seemed to be so endemic in Washington for the last eight years.
And we have a great agenda, a 1/2/3 punch that can get done fairly soon.
First pass Hate Crimes legislation, move DADT, and finally move on and pass a fully inclusive ENDA...and we can get that done with the new majority that you helped bring us.
Then.....Gillibrand..who is so new, anything is interesting said this, then discussed the stimulus plan. She vows to represent all the GLBT people and their allies. Thanks Joe S for invitint her to speak, and his 'advice and counsel.' ( Go Joe S, good schmoozing.)
While I have only been in this new job two weeks, I don't have to learn how to protect the LGBT communtiy. I believe in marriage equality. I will be an advocate for change and vote for equality, its a matter of justice, fairness and freedom. Even in economic crisis, we cannot lose core values of protecting civil rights.
So...surprises the heck out of some in her district I would think if she really has deep down been proGLBT all the time.

NOW KO's... I happened to be listening to him the night of the 'COMMENT' but I had only occasionally before that as he was always ranting so much...Now he gets to rant about some good stuff, so he is much better. LOL
As I do know whereof he speaks...as an empathic straight looking into/onto prejudice...
I think he did a nice presentation here...speaking as a man of his times.
At HRC Dinner...He was there with crew from Countdown as Honorees...for his commentary..see below.
This is a great oppotunity to say thank you, for everything everyone has said to me since that commentary ran.....and to apolgize to you for not having done it 10 days earlier.
Just over 40 years ago.
He goes on to describe being a 10 year old when father was interviewed for a job as an architect with "are you Jewish' questions. Father came home furious, and finally was able to say 'I said no I am not Jewish, ...and he would not work for anti-Semite B*** like them. That was day KO started taking anti-Semitism and prejudice personally.
Just over 25 years ago, He took a lovely young woman with a slight New Jersey accent, (that's his Westchester prejudice he says) out on date. 6 blocks from current venue. She was Aftican American, this was l983...Italian Restaurant, on Second Avenue, he had been to a dozen times. Empty only 2 tables full..two white couples, in the back. They were seated at a front window seat and eating when another couple came in and were seated next to them. Black guy, white woman...didn't register...so what. Another couple White guy, black woman..seated near them.
He finally asked date. ''Really?' and she said 'Sure'. He said 'in l983', she said, yes, ..?in New York? ....She said quietly but making the point. " Everywhere.''That was the night he began to take racism personally.
Two down...one more to go. Cant tell the first time when someone who disagreed with him used a homophobic slur. (the why's he'll leave to experts in criminal insanity...or the parents of those who said it to answer)... but he can tell the last time
...that would have been that afternoon as he was writing these remarks.
So for the last few years began to take homophobia and civil restrictions against gays and lesbians personally. Because.......If you are even just brushed by this plague of hate, you have been given a gift, its brief, it's cheap, it's everlasting you have 'walked a mile in the other person's shoes.' If you are a victim of prejudice, you should now hate prejudice. (This only works for empaths...sorry KO)
Finale: As I focus back on why you were kind enough to honor me here tonight, I think of the true impediments that life places in the way of a happy marriage, Marriage is about Love....there are also some legal ramifications, protections and a lot of accounting...But it is about Love....and with so many enemies arrayed against marriage. bad timing, health, infidelity, financial circumstances, tragedy, biology,....
the thought that some people feel the need to lengthen that list with artificial traditions and other obfuscations ...this thought continues to confound me. It is the dumbest thing I have ever heard!
I will always comment against prejudice...prejudice against who we really are or who we are mistaken for...it's the same d** thing and you have to react to it the same d** way ... you have to take it PERSONALLY.
Thanks JH...loved it..made it a favorite on my youtube site!

Keith Olbermann in particular is a very good speaker. Inspiring rhetoric.
There isn't enough good rhetoric in modern public life.
Love the guy!
