Will PETA reel in Bass?

by Jeremy Hooper

200902041607You many know that PETA has been on an ongoing crusade to change the way people think about aquatic animals, rebranding the finned set as "Sea Kittens." Well now the animal rights groups has taken that same cause to the gay celebrity world, encouraging singer/"Dancing With The Stars" contender Lance Bass to rebrand himself:

Not content with the reams of newsprint that have already been dedicated to our Save the Sea Kittens campaign, we're going for a little more face time for our finned friends by asking Lance Bass, the former 'N Sync singer and "Dancing With the Stars" alum, to change his last name from "Bass" to "Sea Kitten."
Lance Sea Kitten? [PETA Files]

Lance Sea Kitten. It has a certain ring to it, no?

Not to be outdone, we hear that national obesity groups will soon encourage one of Lance's boybandmates to do his part for healthy-sized American positivity, when they proffer the suggestion that Joey Fatone change his own stage name to Joey JustALittlePudgy.

No word if either *NSYNCcer will reply favorably.

Slow news day, huh.

Haha... things you just can't un-read...

PETA is nuts. No one will ever take them seriously.

This is one of the dumbest things I have ever read, even by PETA's standards. Look, I love animals. I'm a big animal rights supporter. I donate to local shelters, and I try to limit my meat consumption to the occasional free-range chicken. But this is just...wow. It's his GIVEN NAME. Perhaps PETA would like to explain to Lance just how their lunatic-fringe agenda trumps generations of his family's history.

And people wonder why animal rights supporters don't get any respect.

PETA's absolutely acknowledging the silliness of this campaign. I don't think their expectations for a legal Lance Bass name change are high. They're just looking for new ways to get a very difficult activist message out to an often unreceptive public.

When did kittens get the ability to breath under water?
Must have been absent that day in school, or that like "new math"?

I agree PETA is nuts. How could anyone ever take them seriously?
