Val vs. vows: WA senator resists gays, equality, thesauruses with synonyms for 'agenda'

by Jeremy Hooper

Val-StevensWashington state senator Val Stevens, a longtime foe of local 'mos, has penned an urgent letter to the Concerned Women For America. The purpose of her missive? Well, it ain't to extol the virtues of using the "v" version of Stevens rather than the "ph" form of the name, or to give out the secret recipe to her delicious banana bread. No, no -- Val's letter is all about the gays and the pesky gay way that they've gayed up the state. Naturally.

Working under the shout-happy headline, "SAME-SEX MARRIAGE MAY BECOME STATE LAW UNLESS WE MAKE OUR VOICES HEARD NOW," Stevens writes things like the following about the Evergreen State's queer folk:

Our society is in deep trouble. The Washington Legislature is dangerously close to passing a law that makes homosexual relationships equal to marriage in every respect except in name.
...
A decades-old, hidden agenda

Same-sex marriage is only part of a hidden agenda homosexual activists have promoted for more than 35 years.

As a legislator for almost half of that period, I can tell you this legislation is not about “love” and “families” as many of the activists portray. It is a secret, hard-nosed political movement determined to fundamentally change our society.

...
Over the years, this hidden agenda has gained more and more ground.

We have lost our rights as parents, employers, citizens

Over the years, we have lost:

1. The right to control the moral character of the people who teach our children.

2. The right to decide what our schools teach about sex.

3. The right of an employer to determine whether an applicant’s moral character will affect his job performance.

These basic parental and employer rights are gone forever.

In fact, this agenda has invaded the foster care system, our schools, state government, sex education, and now two homosexuals who sign a paper will have all the rights of a married couple.
...
If Washington allows homosexuals to marry, their agenda will invade every part of life in our state. You will not be able to protect your children or society at large from the changes that will stem from that one law.
...

We always wondered what became of Chicken Little. Now we know that if we want to find him, he'll be standing outside of Sen. Stevens' office door, shaking his head at the fear-mongery way some people choose to conduct their affairs.

Your thoughts

What was that about only wanting to protect the word?

"1. The right to control the moral character of the people who teach our children." Uh, at what point did Americans have the right to control each other's moral character? And why was losing that control a bad thing?

She kills her own cause with this one:

3. The right of an employer to determine whether an applicant’s moral character will affect his job performance.

That line causes eyebrows to be raised in places BESIDES the lgbt community.

"Same-sex marriage is only part of a hidden agenda homosexual activists have promoted for more than 35 years... It is a secret, hard-nosed political movement determined to fundamentally change our society."

Really Ms Stevens?

How on earth is wanting to share in some of the rights society grants people like her without question some sort of secret agenda? I'll spell it out clearly for her.... We want to be treated just like every other person in the country. As for a secret agenda, I have yet to receive my homosexual handbook that delineates this secret agenda. It's a secret to me as well, it would seem.

As for her third point, how would she feel if I had the right as an employer to determine whether an applicant’s religion will affect his or her job performance?

Ridiculous!
