The National Org. For Marriage is now a self-parody

by Jeremy Hooper

You just can't make it up:

APRIL 8, 2009 -- In just a few minutes, NOM President Maggie Gallagher and I will hold a press conference in Trenton, NJ, announcing an ambitious new nationwide "2 Million for Marriage" (2M4M) initiative.
NOM Launches Nationwide "Two Million for Marriage" Initiative! [NOM]

Yes, that's right: Their new campaign to stop two men from marrying is working under the chat room-sounding acronym, 2M4M! 2M4M! 2M4M!!!!!!

What next, NOM: Gonna ask folks if they like their gay rights cut or uncut?

**MORE: NOM denies comments. NOM defends the indefensible. NOM is despised by YouTube community. NOM forfeits chance to defend their failure of an ad.

**UPDATE, 4/10: Someone other than NOM has wisely bought up 2M4M.org. Another laughable point in NOM's unbelievably bad week.

**UPDATE, 4/11: Maddow takes it on:

Your thoughts

Ugh- it takes all kinds.

This comes on the heels of the "rainbow" coalition, too. Maybe it's an attempt to subconsciously lure gay men into their arms? Or something?

Does Maggie Gallagher bend to the left or the right?

BAH HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA!

Wow... That is priceless.

A rainbow coalition for 2M4M. Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm, I don't know about that one, Mags.

Will they hook up with the teabaggers?

NOM's Gallager Makes Her Own Opinion "Evidence" for Her Own Ad.

NOM's Maggie Gallager tries to support her wacky TV ad by citing her OWN article as evidence that her OWN ad is supported! Doesn't she know it's no evidence at all when you have to quote your own opinion as proof.

Maggie: now that's PROOF you have no credibility!!!

Here are the NOM details:
See stations manager's letter item 4 at
http://www.nationformarriage.org/site/c.omL2KeN0LzH/b.5079649/k.1D29/Gathering_Storm_Background_Facts.htm

Claim: “But some who advocate for same-sex marriage have not been content with same-sex couples living as they wish. Those advocates want to change the way I live. I will have no choice.”

Citing herself among others as evidence:

Maggie Gallgher, Banned in Boston: The Coming Conflict Between Same-Sex Marriage and Religious Liberty, The Weekly Standard, May 16, 2006 quoting counsel for US Catholic Bishops

Didn't we learn that kind of circular crap when the Bush administration planted quotes with false claims about aluminum tubes for nuclear fuel production. Everyone was quoting each other based on their one false quote.

You realize that 2m4m means "2 men for men", thus that group is not only advocating gay sex BUT a THREE WAY TOO!

Brilliant! I bet they thought they could be hep and co-opt the shorthand and try to redefine it. But they just opened themselves to endless ridicule. Can you say "teabagging"?

Posted by: Otherdoug | Apr 11, 2009 1:27:04 AM

What the eff? They provide no actual reason, no real explaination of what the "threats" to them or their marriage are. I'm a straight female, and I'm married. I'm not afraid of gay people getting married. I AM NOT THREATENED because it IS NOT THREATENING! Love=Love, regardless.

Sanctity & Marriage is actually a new initiative of the group Restore Integrity to Marriage whose founder, Dorothy Van Dyke, is founding S&M clubs in every state where man-woman marriage is at risk. Thanks to Dorothy and friends of Dorothy, straight people who might accidentally fall into a gay marriage can find help at their local S&M club, where RIM volunteers will offer them tough love and a firm hand to keep them on the right path.

(Dorothy's a recurring character on http://wakeupworld.tv)

First the teabaggers and now this. It doesn't get any better...it really doesn't.

Check out my pro gay marriage ad. Won the Boston Comedy Festival. It drives Mormons batshit.
