Too young to vote. Old enough to be publicly condemned by LaBarbera

by Jeremy Hooper

LabarberaEarlier this month, Peter LaBarbera gunned for a six-year-old girl and her family when he proudly declared that the young Iowa child "needs a father" and "will be scarred by 'gay marriage'" (fear quotes his). Well now he's up the age a bit, yet is still going to bat again an underage child who dares to support equality.

The underage object of Pete's anti-gay affection? Young Vermonter James Neiley:

In a new post, Peter (a father of underage children himself) calls the above video "sad and troubling," for no reason whatsoever refers to the teen as "effeminate," and then brazenly declares that young James is "on a very dangerous eternal path." Pete even goes so far as to request that his readers send in notes for James, that Pete says he will then publicly publish:

We will write some more about this video but in the meantime please pray for this confused teenager — that he will find and receive godly counsel and escape the clutches of a sin movement that endangers body and soul. Send us your note to him for us to publish; write [email protected]:

Disgusting. A young kid pours his heart out, essentially begging his fellow citizens to help him create a more peaceful world, for himself and all the LGBT kids who will follow. His presentation couldn't be sweeter, and his heart couldn't be any more pure. But Pete, whose presentations are reliably beyond the pale and whose heart is shut off from anything resembling gay tolerance, is fostering the same sort of hurtful misinformation that keeps James and all kids vulnerable.

Well, we're now gonna ask you to answer LaBarbera's call. Take five minutes and send Pete the message that you would like to send to brave, young James Neiley. Resist the understandable urge to scream at Pete, and instead address the beauty in this bright young voice of a new, more progressive generation. CC us on the email ([email protected]). We'll post them all here on G-A-Y, and we'll all get to see what Pete decides to post, compared to the full bulk of fair and principled letters that have actually been sent his way.

So yea, get to writing. And if you're too young to know how to write? Well, then you might be next on Pete's condemnation list get your parents to help.

**ALSO: Look at the "confused" title Pete gives to James' photo:

Your thoughts

Here's the "note" that I sent to James via [email protected]:

Dear James,
Your message to the Vermont Senate, posted on Youtube, is one of the most eloquent, insightful, mature, and bravest things I’ve ever seen from someone your age. Your parents must be bursting with pride and joy to have you for a son. I can only wish that I myself had such a sense of self-awareness at that age. Anyone who hears your speech must be left with nothing but respect for you and well-wishes for your future. It honestly made my eyes well up with tears to hear you express so eloquently what many are unable to put into words. Thank you for that. Now that your message has gone widespread via Youtube, you surely will be inundated by ruthless, disrespectful attacks from certain people who see nothing wrong with publicly excoriating a minor child. From what I’ve seen, I believe you have the strength and courage to withstand those attacks, and become even stronger for it. Thank you so very much for your message.

I just sent him my paragraph, and he will have to read at least half of it before he realizes that it's ripping him a new one. So, if he just reads the first sentences, then maybe he will post it. If he does, then he will probably remove it as soon as one of the minions points out to him that it isn't very bigot-friendly.

Here's my message to James Neiley:

I saw a video clip of your presentation to the Vermont legislature. I was moved by your intelligence, strength, and passion for what is right.

Because you have spoken out in public, you will, unfortunately, find yourself targeted by people interested in doing everything in their power to harm their fellow human beings who happen to be gay. Even more disgusting, many of these people will quote the bible as they seek to harm you, and will tell you they are acting in love and for your own good.

I feel sure you have long since learned to recognize these tactics as lies, and that you are aware that the pretensions of these moral crusaders to have the moral high road are completely unfounded. Still, it takes strength to resist powerful social currents, especially when one is young.

I feel sure you are capable of resisting, and will continue to recognize that who you are is very precious to the God who made you as you are. Thank you for your courage in speaking out in the Vermont hearings. Please know that in the days ahead, when you may be attacked by ugly political operatives claiming to be moral agents, you have many, many supporters across the globe.

I sent mine to Petey. It reads:

Dear James,

I was impressed by your testimony. You are articulate and intelligent far beyond your years. I too hope for a more peaceful, kinder world. The good news is, I believe we are getting closer every day. Bigotry and exclusion have begun to lose their grip and are being replaced with equal treatment under the law and inclusive institutions. Unfortunately, there will always be people who settle for the cheap thrill of spiteful insults. Some are boys in the locker room who should know better. Others are grown men with hardened hearts who are so consumed with hate toward a segment of the population that they set no limits on their nastiness, even going after minors who disagree. I encourage you to stand tall and stand proud. Know that millions of people around the world stand with you and the better day you hope for in your testimony is just around the corner.

Love and support,
Gabriel

So far the LaBarBear hasn't posted any of the emails. Probably hasn't gotten any yet that echo his xenophobic world view.

Well Dick, I have several great ones. So we'll see if he cares to acknowledge what I know he's actually received.

To anyone writing messages to him: He's on Facebook, so be sure to actually send your message to him as well as Porno Pete. I'm sure he'll appreciate it.

Is Mr. LaBarbera on the SPLC's hate list yet? If not, I think that's exactly where he's headed. I can't wait to hear the whining when he's makes the list.
