Focus on the startling willingness to lie about sexual orientation
Add Focus on the Family to the list of "pro-family" groups (and lawmakers) willing to flat-out lie and claim pedophilia as a "sexual orientation":
The U.S. House voted Wednesday to create a new class of crimes based on the traits of the victim, including "sexual orientation" and "gender identity."
What went unreported is more concerning: The legislation could create special protections for pedophiles. Democrats voted down an amendment to the bill that would have excluded pedophilia from the definition of “sexual orientation.”
“If a mother hears that their child has been raped, and she slaps the assailant with her purse, she is now gone after as a hate criminal because this is a protected class," said Rep. Louie Gohmert, R-Texas.

Offensive not only to LGBT people, but also anyone who has a sexual orientation (i.e. all of us) and doesn't care to see something so serious as pedophilia trivialized as being in the same category as hetero/homo/bisexuality. Also offensive to the lawmakers who are being presented as wrong for not making this special distinction about pedophilia, when in actuality there was no more a need to make this stipulation than there was to specially exclude toaster-f**king from the measure! And let's not forget the victims of pedophilia, who should most offended by this group of self-professed "child protectors" who are suggesting that molesters are simply acting on their inborn, valid "orientations" (which again, FOF is directly likening to hetero/homo/bisexuality).
But hey, why choose? When dealing with such an unscrupulous bit of political opportunism from an organization that places itself on such a holy pedestal, there is more than enough room to accommodate all of this outrage.

^^That made me laugh for some reason. But in reality, it's scary that people honestly believe that.

With all the solicitation of paraphilias as sexual orientations by far-right organizations lately, I have to wonder - I don't understand how one gets sexual pleasure from covering one's body in Marmite and clucking like a chicken, but if one does, and if Marmite chicken-clucking counts as a sexual orientation even though it's a paraphilia, then why should they not be protected from hate crimes? Just because their sex lives are more creative or, in the case of the likes of pedophiles or zoophiles, illegal and morally wrong, doesn't mean that they shouldn't also be protected from hate crimes.
What I'm trying to say is - Even IF all those strange paraphilias were lumped into the term "sexual orientation," then so what?

I understand what you're saying, but please don't buy what the far-right is trying to do. They are trying to call homosexuality itself a mere behavior, likened with things like pedophilia (or even Marmite chicken-clucking).

Surely they know that heterosexuality is on that ever-more-widely-disseminated list? Also, the very hate crimes they're advocating against protect religion, which is a behavior.

But that;'s the thing -- they don't. They don't view homosexuality like you or I view homosexuality. They view heterosexuality as the only true norm, and everything else a deviation.

Name not blank, the thing about it is that they don't truly believe that. FOF has been slapped in the face with the truth far too many times for them to be able to claim that they honestly believe their lies. They are purposefully repeating this lie know with full knowledge that it is a lie.
The truly scary thing is that people (the uninitiated who haven't been slapped in the face with the truth, or who are incapable of thinking critically beyond their own hatred) will believe their lies.
