Video: No, because gay men know nothing about beauty pageants. Nothing. Never have. No appeal whatsoever.

by Jeremy Hooper

The rest of the video is just kinda "meh." But start it at 4:05 for big daddy Robertson's obvious lack of familiarity with the inherently high camp-laden world of pageantry:

So a gay man can't possibly have the skills to judge a glitzy pageant, but yet it's totally okay for a devoutly Christian girl who judges others' lives to essentially sell herself on a Las Vegas stage while wearing little more than a bikini and self-tanner? Oh Pat, Pat, Pat. Do you and yours start every week drawing "What is acceptable to us...for now" cards out of a hat?

No word if Mr. Robertson also thinks a gay man's lack of desire to fondle a breast denies him of his ability to perform augmentations of the same. But we do know where he can look if he wants to further research that topic.

CBN News Reports: April 30, 2009 - CBN.com [YT]

*Ed. note: We of course have no problem with bikinis on a Vegas stage. But we also don't place ourselves on a pedestal from which cast stones at the "immoral" and "un-Godly" couples who simply want to love one another.

Your thoughts

Start the video at 8:05? I think you doubled the time there, Jeremy. ;)

Oops! Thanks.

and did dear old Pat almost make a racial slur there? what does Perez Hilton's ethnicity have to do with anything? gay latino bloggers aren't qualified to judge white girls in bikinis?

When does Pat Robertson get his brain implant?

Posted by: Mike Tidmus | May 1, 2009 10:16:43 PM

Yeah, the Latino thing was a racial swipe-he's made other racial and ethnic slurs in the past.
And he's truly an ignoramus for suggesting gay man shouldn't be allowed to judge beauty pageants-just about every beauty pageant that's ever been held has had heterosexual women on the judge's panel. So obviously "beauty" isn't being defined soley in terms of sexual desirability. If Pat think's that the case, shouldn't he be more outraged that a nice Christian girl is participating in this?
Mike, I think any functioning brain would die of starvation if it were planeted in Pat Robertson's head.

Oh dear. There are so many things going wrong here, I don't know where to begin.

My favourite parts were when he says, "A Homosexual celebrity blogger!" and "This guy dudn't like girls, he likes boys!"

God bless the Christian mess.

Yeah, this is so ridiculous! Where is his condemnation over her plunging neckline? I want to know ...

Some of what I heard from this I agree with. Carrie shouldn't be attacked because she is a pageant contestant. Her views should be respectfully argued against.

I love when people talk about "standing up for what you believe in," but only if you agree with them. They don't understand that I truly believe that I am standing up for what I believe in, that God love each of us and that the bible is not as clear cut as people would like to believe, indeed I have had professors that have explained several of Conservative's favorite verses lambasting gay marriage in a much clearer light that does not at all support the anti-gays point.

Two last things, Michael (sp?) Musto did get very inappropriate the other night on Olbermann's show, and this may hurt the cause as well, I understand his point, but he needs to put it out in a better manner. And lastly Pat Robertson really showed some racist tendencies there as well as some very intolerant views, if they are going to lambaste us for not being tolerant, we need to first, look at the way we are handling this, and then turn it around on them.

"Don't throw stones if you live in a glass house."

Piper: I haven't really heard anyone "attack" her for being a pageant contestant. All I've heard in that regard are questions about when, in the eyes of a social conservative, the Miss USA pageant (and all it involves) became a vehicle towards "pro-family" stardom. There are many things involved in this particular pageant that would seem to go against what they claim to stand for.

Poor Pat Robertson got it wrong: Perez Hilton wants to BE Miss Prejean.

She should quit as Miss California. She is no longer representing the state in a way that is becoming of a diplomat and leader, qualities that would seem to be a requirement for that role.

Clearly she is cashing in on her 15 minutes of fame, and while I think there is nothing wrong with that, or the fact she chose to express her views, I think she needs to choose to either be a beauty queen judged on her smile, ass, and fake tits, or a spokesperson for the Pharisees.

Poor little Miss CA. She spent a HUGE portion of her life, probably TONS of money, etc. to essentially compromise her "real" self (boob job, dye job, waxing, starving herself), whatever it would take to try and win this contest. Yet, to answer a question that she KNEW she'd be judged upon no less than her looks were judged, THAT she couldn't compromise on and felt she had to show her "real" self to the judges. Then she gets upset that she didn't win.

Sure, everyone has the right to say whatever they want. But don't whine about how you get judged based upon what you decide to say---when you decide to say it during a pageant judging! Especially when you have already spent so much time, effort, and money into doing EVERYTHING ELSE you can think of to impress the judges.

Besides, if I were a judge, I'd have given her a low score due to how inarticulate she was, more than what she was (badly) trying to say.
