Some social conservatives are into bondage

by Jeremy Hooper

Of all the cashing-in efforts we've seen from our far-right opposition, this one takes the nothing-for-something cake. An organization that calls itself "Defend Marriage" is selling so-called "Marriage War Bonds." For increments of ten or one hundred dollars, folks can hand over cash for nothing more than a slip of meaningless paper:

War bonds have been used to finance wars for centuries. Now, DefendMarriage takes up that same principle in the fight to keep traditional marriage pure and simple, "between one man and one woman". This is a cultural war that must be won. The nation's children cannot wait.

Well they've certainly exhausted enough resources on destroying our bonds. Why not move on more wasteful contracts?

And it seems suitable for framing, too. Ya know, just in case your anecdotal recollections of robbing your fellow citizens of equality don't shock your grandchildren enough.

Your thoughts

The term "Bond" has an implicit legal and financial definition. And the lying liars make the print on it too small to read what is written on it before purchasing one. So when one purchases that "bond", they have no real way of knowing that it isn't a bond that they are purchasing, but is just a worthless piece of paper.

It is highly conceivable that the seventy yearoldsters who purchase these things will actually believe that they are purchasing a financial instrument which has some intrinsic notional value - after all, that same generation is not unaware of the purchase and redemption of actual war bonds. So, the SEC and the FEC might each have separate causes of action against the lying liars.

But a bond is a promise to repay the money being loaned, with interest. That's certainly what the United States did with the bonds I bought by purchasing a stamp a week when I was a wee lad. What dorks.

(DM stole my thunder.)

Once I get some more caffeine into my system, I might report this to the SEC as a '33 Act violation. "War" indeed.

KipEsquire, you might want to wait until they have sold a sufficient quantity of them so that when they have to reimburse the funds, it hurts. Plus the mail fraud and other penalties could quickly mount up as well.

Memo to Dick Mills:

Those "seventy yearoldsters" whom you seem to enjoy ridiculing created the SEC and the FEC, you dumb-as-dirt country cocksucker...

JaneyRuth, is that your real name? Or is that just your porn alias? How many of those Marriage War Bonds have you purchased? Are they a good investment?
