Rick rollin' into Iowa -- and 2012 primaries?
Scared of Palin? Fear da Huckabee? Well then you might want to brace yourself, because it is now being reported that Rick "man on dog sex" Santorum (who most recently popped up as a National Organization For Marriage spokesperson) is eyeing a run for the 2012 GOP presidential nomination.
This from Politico:
POLITICO has learned Santorum will visit first-in-the-nation Iowa this fall for a series of appearances before the sort of conservative activists who dominate the state GOP’s key presidential caucuses.
...
“Your voice becomes more amplified when you go to a place like Iowa or New Hampshire,” Santorum explained in an interview Tuesday about the visit.
Like other potential White House aspirants, he insisted it was too early to consider a presidential run. But he acknowledged that he was interested in taking a higher profile in the party.

Just in case you were sleeping too well at night, or thinking of potential reasons you might move to Canada in January of 2013.
Now, as the piece mentions, it's too early to really see this as an intent to make a go for 1600 Pennsylvania. But when dealing with a foe as staunch as Santorum, it's never to early to raise a big "Oh, hell no!"

So let's see, right now it looks like Huckabee, Palin, Romney, and Santorum in the 2012 Republican primaries. This is going to be fun to watch as they try to outdo each other on right-wing ideological purity.

If he wins the stench of santorum leaking from the white house will drive us all out of the country whether we want to leave or not.

If Santorum got the Republican nomination, that would be fantastic news for progressives. Santorum has been widely exposed and ridiculed as a religious fanatic and a bigoted ignoramus. And despite the shrieking you hear up and down the talk radio dial, this country is taking baby steps back toward sanity. Obama would mop the floor with this buffoon.
I'm sad to see the Republican party go the way it has - reasoned debate about fiscal discipline and responsible government is good for the country. But if they continue to side with intolerant theocratic morons, then fuck 'em. Welcome to history's dungheap.
