Video: Maggie's overtalking = non-shocking. Lou's pushback kinda is.

by Jeremy Hooper

At last year's Values Voters Summit, Lou Dobbs essentially came out as a social conservative. As part of his anti-liberal rant, he even went so far as to say that he has essentially come around to Tony Perkins' and Bishop Harry Jackson's way of thinking. So when we heard that he was hosting a debate on marriage equality, we were expecting some skewed views.

Happily, he surprised us. Last night's Maggie Gallagher vs. Tobias Wolf tête-à-tête was basically balanced, if not tilted in equality's favor:

Your thoughts

It's like she actually thinks that legalizing gay marriage makes straight marriage illegal. Someone should tell her that straight couples in Massachusetts are still allowed to get married.

She doesn't want courts to decide it, she doesn't want the nation's young voters to decide it and she doesn't want the president to decide it. Whose voice gets heard, then, in this discussion? Whose voice is credible? Political discourse won't advance one iota until we learn to listen to each other and respect each other's views.

okay, I've been looking for this damned video all morning. It won't load for me on CNN and I can't find it anywhere else . . .I've read the transcript but it just doesn't do justice.

I AM happy that someone else is paying attention to Lou Dobbs so I don't have to watch that hack.

Maybe the RNC can come up with some money to buy Magger some new clothing. That black dress is getting a bit tired. I see her in Hawaiian prints, or maybe she just needs a killer hat, or something. But that black dress must be getting a bit thread bear by now.

".. thread bare by now."

Pardon my parapraxis, there..

Jon, be grateful you didn't hear Maggie's voice. I'd only ever read her, so until I saw that clip, I didn't know what she SOUNDED like. She's even more irritating.

Gay marriage is a threat to straight marriage because it changes the definition of marriage.

Ummmm, huh?

How can people NOT realize how weak/baseless/circular/nonsensical this argument is? It's so tired, and I have never heard ONE news moderator ever challenge these people on the utter "WTF-ness" of this argument.
