Video: _his American Life

by Jeremy Hooper

You may love "Newhart" reruns. You may also have fond memories of "Hill Street Blues." But unless you are someone who likes to decry Nickelodeon's "gays and lesbian agenda," you might want to avoid watching those aforementioned shows on the American Life TV network. For in a speech at this weekend Values Voters Summit, ALN head Chris Wyatt made it clear that his cabler is not for the 'mos:

(Nickelodeon's "gay and lesbian agenda" claim comes around the 2:30 mark)

Your thoughts

Jeremy, if you can, please always disable "autoplay" on anything you embed. It's a real problem for people at work, for people with slower machines, for people who hate Flash, etc.

If there is no way to avoid it, please include an alert in the teaser (pre-jump) so we're forewarned.

This request (for the alert) also applies to those FlashPaper docs you post -- they're still Flash, and the resources used are comparable to a Youtube clip.

Thanks!

I dont feel like being subjected to the stupid. Let me guess, nickolodeon has a 'gay agenda' because they dont go out of their way to insult and mock gay people? Its almost like when every poll and the slightest bit of common sense tells you young people dont care in the least if someones gay or not TV stations that cater exclusively to young people dont see the need to attack gay people. Nope that makes to much sense and doesnt portray homosexuals as evil monsters out to destroy america.

Obviously Nickolodeon agrees with the majority of its viewers because of some evil agenda and not because they know how to run a business. And Disney is obviously just out to corrupt are children by parading Miley Cyrus in her underwear, it cant be that she's a 16 year old who's music is bought almost entirely by other, sex-obsessed, 16 year olds.

And of course when his idea for an "entertainment alternative to FOX news" fails its gonna be because of some vast homocommieleftist conspiracy and not because Americans find old men droning on about 'family values' boring.

TLC: Yea, these AFA vids have some sort of code that won't let me override the autoplay. I hate it. I honestly don't know why anyone ever wants autoplay on videos.

I'll try to remember to warn. But for the most part, if there's a jump cut, there's going to be something large afterwards.

Yeah, sure - Fox News is the No 1 source of LIES on cable today - they always screw up their words.

Also, with the hundreds of channels, if they don't like what's on create their own "fantasy" station to force feed their lemmings as they lead them over the cliff!

Thanks. The thing is, though, that I'll often click through to see the comments. If there's an autoplay or other large (probably Flash) thing after the cut, it's good to know because then maybe I'll wait on the comments -- or skip them entirely.

Yea, I understand, tjc. Just know that in terms of autoplay, if it's on the site, it's because I'v exhausted every possible option and still couldn't disable it. i hate it too.

If you guys are using Firefox, you can disable Shockwave Flash, and then only turn it on when you do want to view the content. I turn it off all of the time, just because I hate having flash ads slowing down my downloading.
