Audio: 'I'm sorry this debate is happening at all'
I once read a tell-all book about "Saturday Night Live," in which Anne Beatts, one of the female writers from the early days of the show, described the gender disparity in comedy writing rooms by saying that "[the men] had to spell 'cat,' and [the women] had to say when the Edict of Nantes was revoked." Well, that's kind of how I feel about the gay vs. anti-gay debate. Our side rails off reasoned, principled point after reasoned, principled point, and our opposition (and far too much of the public) feels like it's perfectly suitable to counter those carefully studied, thoroughly lawful, intensely measured points by using nothing more than their own personal faith views about what is and is not a suitable family.
This morning on WGAN radio, the needless debate raged on:

Any way to get transcripts of these audio clips?

Yea -- start typing ;-)
I'll post transcripts if WGAN puts them up.

Again with this "two great halves of humanity" crap. Yes on 1 is like a broken record.

It's 100% Maggie Gallagher, Ashton. That and "whether we like it or not" are the two lines she uses in every speech.

You nailed it, Jeremy. We tell the truth; they make stuff up. But, since we're going to persevere and win, there's no point in stooping to their level. Their kids and grandkids will hate them for being bigots. Our kids and future gay kids will be able to hold their heads high.

:) Thanks, Jeremy. My home computer doesn't play sound and my work computer doesn't play the clips. But I was also thinking of the hearing impared supporters who want to know what the other side is arguing but need to see it on the screen. There are a lot of video and audio clips on this site (and when I can watch/hear them, they're great ammunition) - do you think anyone would be interested in transcripting for this site? I'd be happy to help on my lunch break, at least some of the YouTube videos when my system will play them.
Just a thought! Keep up the awesome work. I've never been so informed about a state I've never visited.

Hmmm...notice how NOM and other such orgs. keep using emotional buzz-words to manipulate one's feeling, such as "Mommy" and "Daddy" instead of just "Mom/ Mother" or "Dad/ Father"! That's just SICk how they would PLAY (no PREY) on people's emotions like that, behaving as if we aren't REAL people, with real private lives that have nothing to do with how anyone else lives. Are they THAt scared that little Bobby or Jane might learn that Gay people exist and that they are just as "normal" as everyone else? (I would LOVE an answer to these questions!!!)
Also notice how they keep calling marriage "unique" and "special", as if it has nothing to do with Civil Law in any way! They also don't want us to have even marriage-LIKE rights, such as "Civil Unions" or "Domestic Partnerships" which studies have shown are NOT being honored the way they were intended to be!

Mary Bonauto is quite impressive! The one fortunate thing in this whole process is that we have (very obviously) have the most articulate and intelligent voices on our side. The "Brians" repeat the same tired old inflammatory sound-bites.. we provide sound reasoning.. and ultimately (hopefully) sound reasoning will win.
And that last Catholic Charities rebuttal from Mary was worth sitting through the entirely disgusting, lie-filled diatribe spouting from the mouth of Brian Souchet. Mary, "YOU ROCK!"
