Because he could've been any of us
Because inclusive federal hate crimes legislation is not yet signed into law, and remains one of the most lied-about pieces of legislation in play in this or any other nation.
Because just this weekend, a Queens, NY, man was beaten because he is gay.
Because kids take their own lives due to vicious anti-LGBT harassment.
Because "20/20" did us all a huge disservice.
Because many in the newer generation are unfamiliar with Matt's story.
Because while we march on Washington, pervasive strains of hatred still march on in America.
Because Matthew was a human being who was robbed of life.
Tonight in more than one hundred theaters, we came together to hear an epilogue to "The Laramie Project." Because we will never, ever forget the lessons that we've learned, or the fact that we still have many more to go.
