Photo: What the Huck?

by Jeremy Hooper

MassResistance is one of only 11 groups in the nation to take their homo hostility far enough to earn the Southern Poverty Law Center's anti-gay "hate group" label. So you have to ask yourself: Why doesn't that little fact raise any concerns with once (and future?) presidential candidate Mike Huckabee?

This pic from MassResistance itself:

Huck's not only a hand-shaker: He's also, by his own admission, a reader. Something for us all to remember come 2012.

*Also: Huckabee recently gave a keynote speech to the Illinois Family Institute, a group that was on the SPLC's exclusively ignoble list until this past summer.

**MORE: Our friends at Right Wing Watch just reminded us that Huckabee recently blurbed Matt Barber's new book:

“Our country is at a crossroads. Now, more than ever, we need strong voices to stem the tide of liberalism that is washing away America’s Judeo-Christian heritage. Matt Barber is one of those voices and The Right Hook provides conservatives with an important call to action.” – Former Arkansas Governor Mike Huckabee

Those who follow this so-called "culture war" know that Matt is one of the most extreme voices on the far-right, literally coming across like the schoolyard bully who's on a quest to punch anything in his path. He wears his aggression on his sleeve, and there is nobody he enjoys hurting more than LGBT people.

And this is who the Republican party's rock star called a needed voice?!?

Your thoughts

The answer is simple enough. He's a homophobic bigot pandering to the worst elements of American society.

If Huckabee ends up the Republican candidate in any future election, this photo has already won himself a vote for his opponent.

'Aw Shucks' Huck is a cretin, plain and simple. He's worse than Glenn Beck. And he certainly is no rock and roller despite his feeble attempts at playing bass.

Fuck that; I'd rather see Beck as president than Huckabee.

"Why doesn't that little fact raise any concerns with once (and future?) presidential candidate Mike Huckabee?"

The far-right couldn't care less about hate-groups. For them, the SPLC (like the ACLU) is part of the liberal gestapo; Being associated with organizations like MR would actually benefit Huck on that side.

I agree and disagree, "----." The far-right certainly considers the SPLC to be a liberal fringe group. But Huckabee is going to need FAR more than the far-right to get anywhere in 2012.
