'That's a Family!': Why'd SFMM choose this DVD over 'Transformers 2'?
We've already told you that Maine's anti-marriage equality campaign made a purchase from Groundspark Entertainment, the pro-acceptance company that creates instructional films about how and why LGBT and S people can and should live together in harmony, if we as a people are to realize our greatest potential. But now, after considering all the factors behind Stand For Marriage Maine's purchase (cost, time of filing, relevance to their campaign, etc), we feel comfortable predicting that it is "That A Family!," a highly celebrated video featuring kids telling their own stories about their own kinds of families, that the "yes on 1" campaign has picked up to somehow further their rights-stripping cause. Here's the trailer:
A cute flick that makes gay families look as normal as they actually are. The exact idea that Stand For Marriage Maine doesn't want to take hold.
So do we think they'll be using this film for the basis of their next ad? Well, we're not sure about that (or the legalities thereof). But for some reason, Marc Mutty and company wanted to have this film in their possession. And you can bet that it wasn't to show at their film study group's weekly movie night, use as the demo disc for their new plasma TV, or to help with their own understanding of gay-headed fams. Their reasons are surely more unsavory. And for that reason, we are savoring the chance to be pre-emptive.
**UPDATE: Turns out that Paul Hogarth got to this before us. Check out his 9/29 piece: "Yes on 1" Set to Attack Diverse Families [HuffPo]
Your thoughts
They will go for the inter-species line about how it is OK for a rat to marry a mouse.

We should also be fully prepared for the mass mailing with the picture of Obama and that catch phrase, "I believe that marriage is between one man and one woman!" They threw that out in California just days before the election, and there was no time to respond with the other Obama-isms where he opposed prop H8.

A little off topic, but I personally think this video should be shown in EVERY elementary school. It's well done on so many levels, and the anti-gay side can't even argue that it's simply a promotion of being gay - it's a promotion of all different families, including the "traditional" ones. It's always good to let kids who come from a divorced family or a single parent family or a gay parented family know they are not alone and that there is NOTHING wrong with their family as long as their is love there. Kudos to the creators.

Beautiful video. Thanks Jeremy, for bringing this to my attention. I've posted the YT link on FB so my straight allies will see it.
