Yes on 1's biggest donor: An examination (Vol. 8)

by Jeremy Hooper

Brian-BrownAll of these quotes come from the National Organization For Marriage's Brian Brown. Personally number five is our "favorite":

"Same-sex unions are not marriages and Iowans should not be forced by law to treat them as such.
...
"This madness has to end. No good can come of a law based on a lie, and same-sex unions are not marriages."
...
"Governor Lynch and a narrow majority of the Legislature today have ripped a significant hole in the fabric of New Hampshire society by passing same-sex marriage legislation"
...
"Can you give $5, $50, or even $500 to protect God’s truth about marriage?"
...
"Same-sex unions are not marriages. Political regimes based on lies about human nature cannot last. Same-sex marriage takes a sacred institution, with deep roots in human nature, and tries to turn it into the plaything of politicians, a creature of the state, a bundle of rights to be tossed about between adults. Something so feebly rooted, so fragilely constructed and imposed cannot last."
...
"You can fight back against the bullies!"
...
"The One who designed marriage knew what He was doing. And we will never sit back passively and permit our own government to teach our own children a lie. Same-sex unions are not marriage. Same-sex marriage is not a civil right, it is a civil wrong."
...
"We will continue this good fight, for truth, for common sense, for the dignity of the human person, and for a responsive government that cares about what ordinary people think and believe."

-Brian Brown

But you know, it's weird. We've seen all of Stand For Marriage Maine's "yes on 1" ads, and not a one of them are as hostile to gay people's "feebly rooted" "lies about human nature" as are the above comments. Nor are any of the ads so truthful about the God motivation behind their civil rights resistance. We say it's weird, because one would think that since Brian is the one who most readily shapes NOM's message, that he'd also be the one to shape Stand For Marriage [NOM]'s campaign. Ya know, considering that NOM is bankrolling the campaign and all:

$1.1 million of the $1.4 million raised by Stand for Marriage Maine in October came from a single source: the National Organization for Marriage. In fact, the Washington, D.C., organization has bankrolled more than 60 percent of the campaign to ban same-sex marriages in Maine.
Money fueling battle over gay marriage [Bangor Daily News]

The National Organization For Marriage: This group is extremist. This group is unfair. This group is hellbent on destroying anything that gets in the way of their narrow path. At this point, this group (coupled with the Catholic church, to which NOM is strongly tied) essentially is Stand For Marriage Maine (the group pushing the 'Yes on 1' side) .

We have one week to defeat this group. What will you do to help?

NO ON 1

Your thoughts

The anti-equality campaigns are never truthful about what they are really trying to do which is impose their religious beliefs on everyone else and destroy gay families. They know if they are honest about their anti-gay agenda, they will lose.

They are going to lose big time when the Boies/Olson case goes to the Supreme Court and overturns all of the state constitutional amendments making the states unable to enforce them.
