80% rights, 100% taxes: Maggie's logic has 0% chance of sustainability

by Jeremy Hooper

Maggie Gallagher:

Mags-Gallagher"New Jersey voters and politicians have given a great deal to Garden State Equality in the last few years, including full civil unions. Steven Goldstein has boasted that New Jersey is one of the best states for gay rights in the country, thanks to his organization's efforts. Why are they insisting on the right to redefine marriage, whether or not the people of New Jersey like it?
National Organization For Marriage To New Jersey Senate: Don't Mess with Marriage [NOM]

Jeremy Hooper:

Jeremy-Hooper"Voters and politicians have 'given' Garden State Equality a great deal? As if we are charity cases begging for whatever pox-infested blankets one might deign us worthy of receiving?! What gall, Gallagher!

How about this, Maggie: The state Supreme Court DEMANDED that the legislature give parity to same-sex citizens! Now I know, Madame Marriage Bias, that your movement has dangerously relegated the judiciary, a crucial branch of American government, to the 'doesn't matter' file. But the state's highest court DOES matter to most of us.
Greatly. And since the legislatively-enacted civil unions have FAILED to deliver on the court's ruling, the legislature not only should remedy the problem -- one could argue that not doing so would be an act of hostility towards the '06 decision!

Yes, Maggie, New Jersey is a great state for LGBT equality (despite your hurtful organization's ignoble attempts to change that fact). But equality is not a game of horse shoes or hand grenades. Close is not enough! As long as even one New Jersey resident is forced to pause his or her life in order to beg their government for basic fairness, the march will need to continue. And as long as there are people like yourself who build their entire careers around the myth of 'marriage redefinition,' who suggest that majority tyranny should be a condition that can break minority rights, and who continue to wage unprovoked wars against the spectrum of societal normalcy, none of us, LGBT or S, will be able to reach our full peace, prosperity, or collective strength.

It is your side that is damaging the nation, Maggie. The burden is on you to first acknowledge that fact, then work to heal the decades-long rift that you have been so instrumental in creating.

Your thoughts

Again with this whole "redefining marriage" thing. It's still about people publicly consenting to and acknowledging their relationship and consenting to legal and/or financial and/or spiritual entanglement.

All that's being redefined is who can get the contract acknowledged by the government.

"Why are they insisting on the right to redefine marriage, whether or not the people of New Jersey like it?"

Yes, they are. This is the way constitutional republics work. Get over it, Maggie.

Hmm... let's see. I think I know Mags' MO pretty well by now. If marriage equality passes in NJ, she'll now say that NJ has *imposed* gay marriage on its citizens. Like Iowa, Mass, etc., Minsters of the Peace will now a have a gun to everyone's head demanding everyone to GAY MARRY!

Next, they'll be teaching our kids about butt-sex, I tells ya!

Then they'll have to paint every cross in every church pink!

well said, Jeremy!

Why does radical anti-gay activist Gallagher insist on redefining morality? Clearly, "treat others as you want to be treated" does NOT mean "take away the civil rights from law-abiding, taxpaying, gay Americans."

Maggs can believe whatever she wants, but she needs to stop trying to impose her religious beliefs on everyone else. That's called religious tyranny and it's unamerican and immoral.
