Justice de-leied is justice denied

by Jeremy Hooper

Ugh:

Today was supposed to be the day when Hawaii’s Civil Unions bill would head to the Governor’s desk for consideration. Although, after two years of hard fought wins, the state House approved a motion to postpone the bill indefinitely, making it nearly impossible to pass this session.

Then perhaps we should postpone our trips to the Aloha State as well. I hear marriage-friendly Iowa is lovely this time of year.

Your thoughts

Ugh...I wouldn't, Jeremy. Actually, Iowa really looks lovely nearer the end of May, before it gets too hot. Then, from June to near the end of September, we're in the broiler with HORRIBLE summer heat + humidity! Ick... And, right now, it's frakkin' COLD!!!!!!!!!! We've had the most unusual winter this year, with TONS of snow, and TONS of fog, and TONS of icy accidents that even closed most of the roads and businesses for a number of days.

What depressing news to end the week on. Was really hoping the bill would get to the governor without challenge. To hear it's been postponed indefinitely is just plain awful

So, but see news from EQUALITY HAWAII... Lambda Legal and ACLU will now start a suit!!

Media alert doesn't have about suit. http://www.dadtbook.com/

But this sent in by email does.

http://tinyurl.com/y8vzzlg includes:
That is why Lambda Legal has been planning a lawsuit to seek civil unions for quite some time with our partners at the ACLU of Hawaii. We have held back for several years to give the Legislature multiple chances to do the right thing because legislative reform can convey an important message of respect and inclusion. But after years of exasperating, painful disappointment, the time has come for alternative next steps.
