Don't pee on our rights and tell us its progressive rain water: Fed up NYers to counter Ford
Harold Ford Jr. has every right to speak, which is why the Stonewall Democrats of NYC will host the former TN congressman and undeclared candidate for U.S. Senate at their 2/24 general meeting. However, those LGBT New Yorkers who are sick of the revisionist history that the two-time Federal Marriage Amendment supporter has placed on his gay rights record also have every right to speak, which is why a coalition will show up at the Stonewall Dems event to hold the potential Gillibrand challenger's feet to the proverbial fire:
On Wednesday, February 24th at 6 p.m., The Power invites you to join us in confronting anti-LGBT Senate hopeful Harold Ford, Jr. when he addresses the Stonewall Democratic Club of New York City at the LGBT Community Services Center at 208 West 13th Street (between 7th & 8th Avenue). Be there early and invite all your friends to stand united against his lies.
Ford, a member of one of Tennessee's most corrupt political families, has a record of lying to gay people to advance his political career. As a Tennessee Congressman, Ford pursued the endorsement of National Stonewall Democrats, promising that organization that he would not support an amendment to the Constitution banning same-sex marriage. After getting the endorsement, Ford not only supported it, he gave a floor speech on behalf of the amendment and voted for it twice!

Come to listen. Come to talk. Come to question why we should even consider getting behind a man who voted to inscribe Bush era errors into our nation's most precious governing document, when the gay community has a truly fierce ally in Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand. Just come.
And don't worry about being too hard on Mr. Ford's record. By 2/25, he'll surely be spinning even the most heated gay opposition as some kind of stealth support that we're all too dense to understand.
**UPDATE: National Stonewall Democrats' Executive Director, Michael Mitchell, has issued the following statement:
"As always, Stonewall clubs around the country operate autonomously from National Stonewall Democrats. Given Harold Ford's potential candidacy and proclaimed change of heart on LGBT issues, we understand that the Stonewall Democrats of NYC would want to hear from him and have an opportunity to engage in a dialogue. Mr. Ford's past actions -- including voting twice in favor of the Federal Marriage Amendment -- hurt many in the LGBT community, and the members of Stonewall Democrats of NYC deserve the opportunity to have an honest conversation with him about his evolved beliefs.
National Stonewall Democrats hopes that the exchange with Mr. Ford is productive, and that all parties are honest and respectful."
