3/5s compromise, Dred Scott, plantations, and McCarthyism: Award for most offensive historical inaccuracies in one column goes to...
More from the far-right's newest liability, American Family Association personality Bryan Fischer. This time the topic is potential Don't Ask Don't tell repeal and the way those who support discrimination are supposedly being treated, with a supremely odd interpretation of past historical oppressions serving as the vehicle for Mr. Fischer's flawed viewpoint creation:
If being made "uncomfortable" is what counts here, why is no weight given to those who are offended by this flagrant disregard of military law and freedom of religion and speech?
Maybe it's because those on the left only regard us each as 3/5 of a person. Do you think?
The days of Dred Scott have returned. Christians now are the ones are being confined on the plantation, and warned about being too uppity.
The only ones who will feel "included" here are those who support sexual deviancy in the military. The rest of you Neanderthals, well, that's just too bad. This is the new military, regardless of what the law says, so get used to it.
McCarthyism has now struck the U.S. military with a vengeance. The question now that the military is asking is this: "Are you now, or have you ever been, a supporter of traditional morality?" If the answer is yes, you go on our blacklist, and we deprive you of your freedom of religion, speech and military service.
Homosexual agenda or the Constitution: take your pick because you can't have both [AFA]
What, no invoking of Nazi Germany? Wow, you really have to admire Mr. Fischer's restraint [/snark, snark]

What you quoted was so disjointed and badly-written that I had to read the full piece. Amazingly, this really is exactly what he wrote, in the order he wrote it.

And they accuse us of "hijacking" the civil rights movement.

Talk about mixed metaphors!

This guy is not only a clown, but also historically ignorant. The 3/5 compromise is a distinct historical event from the Dred Scott decision, which came down decades later. Also, it was the slave states that wanted to count slaves as full persons for the purpose of the census (and only the census). The free states argued that it made no sense for enslaved persons to "count" at all for census purposes, which would only result in greater power for their slavemasters. The compromise was 3/5.
This AFA fool doesn't know the first thing about these tragic events, but he feels free to toss them around to raise money for his culture war. A true Christian.

I am certain if you asked any member of the AFA what their mission statement was, you would encounter an AGENDA that was staggering.
I find the terms "traditional morality" a double oxymoron. The militaristic, theocratic, patriarchal drumbeat of the Fright Wing is neither traditional nor moral as we all know. Their days are numbered. There is no love in their world view.
