Video: To find Bush Library's Laura wing, look left
When we first read an excerpt from Laura Bush's memoir, we took a cynical position, seeing her comments on marriage equality as skewing negative towards the course that marriage equality took post-Massachusetts (while leaving open the possibility that we were wrong). But last night on Larry King, the former first lady clarified:
Wow, so that makes both Cindy McCain and Laura Bush, the wives of the Republican candidate in the last three presidential elections, who have broken from their husbands to announce a pro-equality stance. Perhaps it's these GOP men who've campaigned on and for marriage bans who need to start respecting "the sanctity of marriage" enough to realize that their better halves know a thing or two about what does and does not really constitute a marriage threat.
Besides, in so-called "traditional marriage," isn't it the bride's family that pays and takes care of the majority of the planning? That alone should give them a majority stake in the family's future wedding dealings!
