Check out of Bellevue: Westboro takes mi$$ion straight to bank
Ready to gag? Well check this out. It's a check that the city of Bellevue, Nebraska, was forced to cut to Westboro Baptist Church's notorious Phelps family, stemming from an improperly enforced flag desecration law:
Megan Phelps: Bellevue, NE (of arrested-a-peaceful-protestor-because-they-hate-God-and-worship-idols fame) is now funding WBC picket trips. Yay! =D [SOURCE]
We're not at all surprised that Bellevue had to fork over the cash. We basically predicted it back in 2007 when the flag desecration/delinquency of a minor charge was first handed down (*See our initial post, as well as Shirley Phelps-Roper's response to it). It's easy to let emotions get in the way when it comes to WBC -- but facts and rights remain concrete, and Westboro must be handled in accordance with the same constitution that governs this nation's non-sign-carrying brethren.
But still, seeing a three-zeroed check going to this merry band of "f*g-haters"? We're sure the city's local homeless and hungry would've gladly shrouded themselves in American flags if they knew it could come with such a payday!
