Hey Bear McCreary: Do you want your music used for anti-gay bigotry?
This is a snippet from "Prelude to War" off of the "Battlestar Gallactica" soundtrack. Listen to fifteen seconds of it, then we'll get back to you:
Okay, so it's a powerful piece of music, right? And it comes from a show that was widely praised for its LGBT inclusivity and widely embraced by gay audiences.
Right, so now check this out. The following is one of several anti-military fairness, pro-discrimination videos that the Family Research Council has created for the sole purpose of keeping openly gay soldiers out of the U.S. armed forces. Listen to the intro music:
Yep, you got it: It's Bear McCreary's "Prelude to War." Which would be offensive enough, by title alone, considering the subject at hand is basic civil rights and not space war. But when you consider the source material and FRC's co-opting of it, it takes on a whole new level of "ugh."
And it's not just this one -- FRC is using the same "BG" intro music in all of their DADT vids: FRCBlog [YT]
What next, FRC -- Gonna use the "L Word" theme to reject ENDA?!
