Video: But the truly important thing is that NOM supporters could've come

by Jeremy Hooper

One positive takeaway from the National Organization For Marriage's summer tour: That the Earth will go on just a little bit longer, since the force from Brian Brown and company's spinning has surely added years of fuel to the planet's kinetic reserve well.

Latest example? This clip from NOM's recent (and reliably sparse) tour stop in Orlando, FL, where Brian once again blamed those big, bad, scary gays for putting so many blank spots in that day's pews:

Uhm, well yea, Brian -- As long as humans and human potential exist, there is the possibility for high attendance. But the "might've" didn't become a "did." And the "could've been" is not a boon for your side!

Social conservatives know that their troops, if committed to something, will not be deterred by a political adversary. Many right and far-right events and marches and TEA parties has proven this to be true. The simple reality that Brian refuses to admit is that this NOM tour, on attendance alone, is an abject failure! We (and we suspect, they) totally expected to see hundreds at every single stop, because we do know that there are still many people in almost every American community who are standing against our equal rights. But that hasn't happened. AT ALL. Every stop has been underwhelming for NOM, some of them jaw-droppingly so.

So Brian can try all he wants to pin the embarrassment of this summer fiasco on gay folk. But since our side -- from bloggers to activists to everyday supporters of basic fairness -- have shown up to stand against this unprovoked summer assault, we're more than confident that the historical record will dull these unbelievably far-fetched spin jobs. Sorry, Earth.
