Gay-centric stone-casting still increasing religious right job security

by Jeremy Hooper

National Organization For Marriage co-founder Robert George
Focus on the Family president Jim Daly
National Organization For Marriage chairperson Maggie Gallagher
Family Research Council president Tony Perkins

Those are just four of the familiar anti-gay names that Newsweek includes in a new "Faces of the Christian Right" roundup:

Though at the same time, Newsweek included folks like Jim Wallis and the Sleeths (Matthew and Nancy) who are focused much more on issues like the environment that they are on people's ring fingers. So on one hand, maybe this new Christian Right shows signs of progress compared to the days of Falwell.

But on the other hand: As long as people like Robert "sodomitical acts...are immoral" George and Tony "gays are 'held captive by the enemy'" Perkins are getting national press ink due in large part to their targeted hostility, the entire right -- that's the "G" the "O" and the "P" -- is going to be weakened party, and the entire country -- that's the "U" the "S" and the "A" -- is going to be a weakened nation.
