It's their CPAC and they'll cry about gays if they want to

by Jeremy Hooper

The Family Research Council and the Concerned Women for America are the latest "pro-family" groups to pull out of the conservative movement's CPACannual CPAC conference, primarily because of the participation of the gay Republicans at GOProud. FRC and CWA join previously announced sitter-outers the American Principles Project, American Values, Capital Research Center, the Center for Military Readiness, Liberty Counsel, and the National Organization for Marriage. So says WorldNetDaily, at least:

Biggest conservative names bidding goodbye to CPAC -- Participation of homosexuals, financial mismanagement cited [WND]

But don't you dare think they're anti-gay, these groups. Oh no, no, no. No siree Bob. Groups like NOM and FRC (the latter of which is an SPLC-designated hate group, btw) simply want to protect the gay-cootie-free family. You see the difference there, right? RIGHT?!

Oh, and to further show how thoroughly not anti-gay this decision is, look at where the support's coming from. From folks like Peter "I draw on gay people's wedding photos for sport" LaBarbera (another SPLC "honoree"):

"Excellent. It is gratifying to see FRC and CWA respond appropriately to CPAC's moral sellout of allowing GOProud as a sponsor," said Peter LaBarbera, president of Americans for Truth about Homosexuality, the nation's best-known organization dedicated exclusively to opposing the homosexual political agenda.

"By bringing in GOProud, CPAC was effectively saying moral opposition to homosexuality is no longer welcome in the conservative movement," said LaBarbera. "Would CPAC bring in an organization specifically devoted to promoting abortion and pretend it's conservative?" LaBarbera has formerly participated in CPAC, but said he may protest the conference this year.

"Shame on CPAC for defending the absurd proposition that one can be 'conservative' while embracing moral surrender – in this case the idea espoused by GOProud of the government granting 'rights' and benefits based on sinful sexual conduct long regarded as anathema to biblical and Judeo-Christian values," LaBarbera added.

And figures like Mat "the Prop 8 proponents weren't anti-gay enough" Staver:

"[GOProud is] why Liberty Counsel and Liberty University dropped out of CPAC," Staver told WND. "Last year Liberty University was a CPAC sponsor, and we worked on a committee selecting speakers. We were not informed that GOProud was a consponsor. They were brought in at the eleventh hour, and we learned about it in a homosexual blog."

Good to see Mat's reading the gay blogs. See, that's just further proof that he's not anti-gay. Nope. Not at all. He's "pro-family" and "pro-marriage," not against gay people. Gosh, how dare you even think that? Honestly -- how dare you? What would possibly lead you to such a conclusion, you radical militant you?

But while we bask in the current respect these oh-so-respectful groups are heaping on LGBT people, we'll have to wait and see if any more Christian conservative groups show just how lovingly and tolerantly they're willing collapse the big tent whenever said tent gets even marginally 'moey. Stay tuned (and watch your back).
