But NOM, we both know Jim Garlow has more Beelzebubian interests

by Jeremy Hooper

The ever-far-right-leaning National Organization For Marriage is today using Pastor Jim Garlow to instruct us all on *CIVIL* marriage:

Pastor Jim Garlow on Presidents, Governors and Attorney Generals Who Break Oaths [NOM Blog]

Though if it's all the same to NOM: We think we can give a much more transparent insight into Jim Garlow's actual marriage desires. 6A00D8341C503453Ef0148C812Fc2A970CFor instance, as he wrote in an FRC "Sermon Starter": Garlow is convinced that it's Satan who is motivating those of us who work towards marriage equality:

"Satan is obsessed in destroying marriage, the coming together, fitting together of the two complimentary halves of humanity – male and female, since they are on earth, a mirror, an image, of what is to be fulfilled at the end of this age. And that is why we are in the battle we are in. It is not ultimately about earthly marriage, about our religious freedoms, our church’s, or even about the practice of homosexuality as such. It is about the desire of Satan to decimate the picture of God’s ultimate design for the Cosmos – the Grand Wedding of His Son to the Prepared Bride." [SOURCE]

And as Garlow wrote for the American Family Association: He thinks the President is serving as some sort of Satanic surrogate, destroying not only "all that is good" about marriage, but also, military discrimination:

[Written in the President's voice, giving a theoretical State of the Union speech:] "I have tragically hastened to destroy the No. 1 preserver of all that is good in society – the family, consisting of a mother and a father. In my need to be politically correct, and my desire to garner more votes from the nuclear family attackers, I was drawn in to their errors and sins of redefining the family. I am ashamed of this. I am sorry. I ask for forgiveness.

I have helped to demoralize the military that defends us. I ran roughshod over 59% of the US Marines when I forced my social experimentation upon them, coercing them to accept lifestyles as normative, with no thought of troop readiness and cohesion. I was drawn in to the errors, lies and sins of political correctness, at the expense of truth. I am ashamed of this. I am sorry. I ask for forgiveness.

And to get his troops to "fight back," Mr. Garlow evokes Revolutionary War imagery:

Garlow recalls how pastors before the Revolutionary War led people to godliness. "...When these pastors would complete their sermons, they would take off their black robes -- they preached in vestments at those times -- ... [and] underneath that would be the attire of military," he shares. "They would pick up a musket and [ask]: 'Who's going to go fight with me?'

"And so the revolutionary armies during that time came from pastors leading the churches. It's known as the Blacked-Robed Regiment."

That same kind of leadership, says the California pastor, is needed today. "And we need a black-robed regiment today," he urges. "We need pastors who are willing to stand up. And we need persons who are in the pews to stand up with them -- a black-robed regiment of laypersons -- who's going to take [a like stand]. We're going to have to spiritually see our nation change."

Because, you know: Jim wants to avoid prison:

"[If] we lose [the fight for Prop. 8], we go to jail. How soon I don't know. But the fact is this is the kind of case where political correctness is bearing down," the pastor contends. "If a pastor refuses to perform a homosexual wedding, if we lose on this, he will be or she will be so incredibly vulnerable at that time."
-Jim Garlow, 7/29/08

Because to Garlow, there have "three tragic national sins": Racism, a woman's right to choose, and of course -- gay people pledging their love to one another:

And no matter what, it always turns back to Lucifer:

So okay, NOM. Use Mr. Garlow in your DOMA Defense. Put him on stand in civil court. Go ahead. We insist.

But stop acting like the arguments are coming from a place truly concerned about Presidents, Governors, Attorney Generals, Constitutions, or the civil marriage licensing process that is WHOLLY SEPARATED from the religious marriage ceremony (which pastors like Jim Garlow will have EVERY RIGHT to deny). Our argument if here on Earth, where we gay, tax-paying citizens are being denied by our government. We are not working to stop, alter, or in any way interfere with Mr. Garlow's own marriage, be it here or in the afterlife.
