Canned us, Gingrich: Newt's forgiving God keeps him in 'values' realm, not 'fascist' gays
Last night in Philadelphia, a past House speaker, likely future presidential candidate, and present lesbian-sister-haver was confronted on his lifestyle choices:
Said Isabel Friedman, president of the Penn Democrats, to Gingrich:
"You adamantly oppose gay rights... but you've also been married three times and admitted to having an affair with your current wife while you were still married to your second," "As a successful politician who's considering running for president, who would set the bar for moral conduct and be the voice of the American people, how do you reconcile this hypocritical interpretation of the religious values that you so vigorously defend?"
Snapped Gingrich: "I'll bet almost everybody here can gather the thrust of your question...I appreciate the delicacy and generosity in the way it was framed. ... I hope you feel better about yourself."

And while the snip is annoying as conveyed by Politico, check out this video that Towleroad just posted. Listen to how Newt addressed the meat of the question (beginning around :47):
Yes, that's right: He boils it down to "fascism." Newt, a public on the side of federal marriage bans and virtually no LGBT rights movement whatsoever, completely sidesteps the question of "values" hypocrisy or the merits of equal rights under the law, and instead resorts to an old, patently offensive "gays are fascist" meme.
And of course when it comes to actions? They can all be excused away with a mention of a "forgiving God." It's one of the powers of being a conservative Republican, as opposed to being, say, a sitting Democratic president.
Blech. When I said I wanted '90s nostalgia, I mean a "My So Called Life" reunion, not resurgence of the forces who tried to repudiate my (and Ricky Vasquez') life via public policy.
