Of course NOM's misrepping Louis' role. It's the one constant of the Brown/Marinelli marriage
It's no surprise that NOM is misrepresenting it's once-cozy relationship with Louis Marinelli. As our pal and fellow activist Alvin McEwen reminds us: This is what they've been doing since the very beginning. Indisputable case in point:
- On July 14, Alvin wrote a Huff Po piece rightly connecting NOM to Louis' "Protect Marriage" Facebook page -- the very page that they would go on to take over.
- But at the time, NOM freaked out about Alvin's claims, issuing this snarky statement: "The Huffington Post on Wednesday falsely attributed statements to the National Organization for Marriage (NOM) about discrimination faced by gays and lesbians. The statements were apparently posted by an unnamed "administrator" of the "Protect Marriage: 1 Man 1 Woman" Facebook account. Huffington Post falsely claims that this is NOM's Facebook page. The Facebook account on which these statements were reportedly made is not NOM's Facebook page and neither NOM nor anyone representing NOM made these statements. The Facebook account in question is operated by a private party and NOM does not control what is allowed to be posted on the account, a fact that could have been easily known to Huffington Post had they reached out to NOM to verify the report"
- Only problem? NOM's snark was a blatant lie! And how can I prove this to you now, almost a year later? Well, with this smoking gun Tweet:
DATE: 6/22 (almost a month prior to Alvin's HuffPo piece and NOM's reaction to it)
ACCOUNT: @nomtweets, NOM's official Twitter home (then, now, always).
THAT OW.LY LINK WHERE FOLLOWERS ARE TOLD TO GO TO STAY INFORMED: It pointed directly to Louis' "Protect Marriage" page. Now I don't know about you, but "sign up to join #NOM" seems pretty damn official to me. Go ahead, check the ow.ly link for yourself. It still points to Louis (now-in-transition) page: http://ow.ly/21JTd.
- Of course by summer's end, NOM would more fully secure the adoption:
But by June, they were already using his page, asking people to "sign up to join the #NOM team." Yet in July, they did a HUGE disservice to Alvin McEwen when they FLAT.OUT.LIED. about this undeniable fact.
I'd say they owe Alvin an apology, wouldn't you?

*But wait, there's more: On July 13, 2010 (one day before Alvin's Huff Po piece), NOM changed its official Twitter home, listing Louis' Facebook page as their own effort! You know, because that's what all groups do with private parties, right: Change their Twitter background image to list said private party as their own? [:eye roll:]
Ugh. Fib machines.
