Poll: New Yorkers quite able to wrap heads around basic respect/fairness/equality
A new Siena Poll brings us some encouraging data. It shows that 58% of New Yorkers solidly support the freedom to marry, with only 38% voicing opposition:
Siena College Research Institute
April 4-6, 2011
777 New York State Registered Voters
MOE +/- 3.5%
More than just the grand totals, look at the breakdowns. 45% support (and 7% don't know/no opinion) from the GOP? Larger support in the suburbs and upstate than even in NYC itself? Every ethnic breakdown being more favorable than not? Mega-huge numbers in the 18-34 demographic? These are inspiring figures!
And as for how we can win conservative Protestants over 55? Easy: Promise all of our wedding cakes will be shaped like Ronald Reagan speaking to a Billy Graham crusade. The "I do" part might make still make them wince -- but the pastry bust will make both the societal destruction and blood sugar level risks all worth it.
