Because why should a Democratic Senator limit his civil rights animus to only *one* May rally?
And now this from New York state senator, organizer of rallies where preachers say unbelievably hostile things about gays, person whose stated "agree to disagree" philosophy fails to apply to pro-LGBT newspapers, and deleter of fair-minded Facebook comments, Ruben Diaz, Sr.:
State Senator Rev. Rubén Díaz is calling on all clergy and religious leaders to participate in the rally to support traditional marriage organized by the New Yorker’s Family Research Foundation.
“It is important to support Rev. Jason McGuire in this rally, which will take place this Tuesday, May 24, 2011, from 11:00 AM to 3:00 PM in West Capitol Park, Albany NY, (at South Swan St. and State St.),” urged Senator Díaz.

So congrats, Senator Tom Duane (and many others): One of your Democratic colleagues is now pushing the work of a man whose stated goal is to save pro-equality lawmakers from what he claims is a certain eternity in hell:
"When we're talking about a Senator Duane
or an Assemblyman O'Donnell who's sponsoring same-sex marriage,
we're not only talking about a legislator
that is taking a position against God's word,
but a legislator who, if they die without Jesus Christ,
dies without a home in Heaven and an eternity in Hell"
Not that we'd expect anything less from either McGuire or Diaz, as we all know without a shadow of a doubt that this so-called "support traditional marriage" nonsense is really all about "saving" gay people. But it's always good to remind folks of what truly lies behind the code wording, per the code word purveyors' own admissions. You know: So that maybe someday we can start actually discussing what they are so proudly saying to us, rather than playing this game of "protect the family" pretend.

*EARLIER: Sights and sounds from the 5/15 rally that Diaz hosted in collaboration with the National Org. For Marriage:
Presiding pastor says "Those who practice such things are worthy to death"
Preacher says 'breaking traditional marriage' will bring 'judgement and wrath of God'
NOM/Diaz rally speaker: Protect the family from Ricky Martin/the gates of hell
NOM's Brian Brown gives skewed, wholly religious speech
About that other group with a huge on-site presence, TFP
About that NOM/Diaz human chain
They were all just so -- happy
NOM-financed flyer supporting the event

*EARLIER Pt.2: Some of the other hostile things McGuire and his organization, the New Yorker's Family Research Foundation, have put forth about LGBT people: NY's chief anti-equality lobby: Homosexuality is 'perverted & twisted,' will lead to 'destruction of your immortal soul' [G-A-Y]
