The voice of Albany inequality: Group that called us 'perverted & twisted' recruits Giant who said we 'do God an injustice'
The National Organization For Marriage's newest superstar, former NY Giant David Tyree, will be in Albany today, rallying alongside the so-called New Yorkers for Constitutional Freedoms (NYCF) for the continued cause of stopping basic civil rights:
NYCF is calling friends of authentic marriage to Albany. We need people to fill the Capitol Building in a visible show of support for traditional marriage. Please be outside the Senate on the 3rd floor of the Capitol at 10:00 AM on Monday, June 20. Pastors, your presence especially could be helpful. Please share this information in your church on Sunday and forward it to like-minded friends.
...
At 1:00 PM, there will be a press conference with David Tyree. Tyree is a committed Christian and active community leader, but he is perhaps best remembered as the New York Giants Wide Receiver who made that memorable helmet catch that led to the Giants' win in Superbowl XLII.
Tyree said, "I believe in marriage as God originally intended, between one man and one woman. My position may not be popular in some circles, but I care more about marriage and family than my reputation."
Tyree wants to use the platform the Lord has granted him to advocate for the traditional family. Come stand with us as we stand for marriage.

To remind you: This is the group (which also operates under the name New Yorker's Family Research Foundation) whose heads have painted this whole civil rights conversation as a war, presented churches as if they are recruiting stations and the Bible itself as a weapon meant to clobber certain kinds of humans, likened marriage equality to child abuse, blamed this whole fight on Satan, and claimed that they're in this fight to save people like Sen. Tom Duane and Assemblyman Danny O'Donnell (both gay) from "an eternity in Hell". Oh, and this same group also promoted their marriage efforts with church bulletin inserts that called homosexuality "perverted & twisted" and said that it will lead to the "destruction of your immortal soul." Words and actions to which groups like NOM, who were once oh-so-concerned with seeming moderate and mainstream, are now willingly attaching their discriminatory movement's flailing ship.
It's crunch time here in New York. Crunchy, because so many moral authoritarians have determined smooth sailing to be confined to heterosexual people of (certain kinds of) faith. The only way forward is for a responsible state senate to reject the opposition movement's overplayed hands.
