DOMA with a capital 'Doh!': 248 lawmakers 'reaffirm' certain citizens' 2nd class status

by Jeremy Hooper

By a vote of 248-175, the GOP-controlled House of Representatives on Thursday passed a wasteful, completely meaningless, pointedly discriminatory "reaffirmation" of the so-called Defense of Marriage Act:

U.S. House Takes Unnecessary Vote to Reaffirm DOMA [HRC Backstory]

Adding insult to injury: The vote was on an amendment to the Defense Appropriations bill designed to ensure DOD funds "may not be used for activities in contravention of the Defense of Marriage Act." So this is an attempt by conservatives (led by the notoriously anti-equality Rep. Virginia Foxx) to not only defend the discriminatory DOMA, but also to trip up certification of Don't Ask Don't Tell repeal. A twofer!

Which means a few things things: (1) We have an election coming up; (2) Anti-gay political football season didn't end with Coach Bush's retirement; (3) Elected Republicans are still leading this charge, despite all of the press about growing GOP support; (4) Gross.
