NOM EXPOSED: 'For' what, exactly?
*Note to readers: As part of a new partnership, I will be writing select pieces exclusively for NOMExposed.Org. These pieces (which I will excerpt here under a 'NOM Exposed' label) will pertain to the National Organization For Marriage, that org's nationwide "Let The People Vote" campaign, and the overall fight to deny same-sex couples in law.
It's a most welcome relationship that I am confident will build on the work that myself, the Human Rights Campaign, and the Courage Campaign (and many others) have been doing, as well as increase the collaborative dynamic between the LGBT blogosphere and the national equality organizations. Hopefully you too will embrace these new developments as we all work together to put the contrived, divisive, needlessly hurtful National Organization For Marriage out of business. For good.
It all begins here:
“For” what, exactly?
I’m for a lot of things. Unquestionably I’m for civil equality, which I can easily pinpoint as the right of a citizen to be treated fairly by the government to which he or she pays taxes. I’m for ending wars, both in the contrived cultural and the frighteningly real guns and bombs senses of the term. Anyone who knows me would also tell you I’m for a good laugh, holding the belief that souls are fed via the spontaneous sounds of faces that refuse to take this whole life thing all that seriously, all the time. And I’m definitely for the critical and box office success of the forthcoming “Muppets” movie, which builds on both my commitment to snickering as well to my drive for equal rights for all beings, felt or otherwise.
Oh, and marriage: That’s another thing I’m totally for.
