NOM EXPOSED: NOM's new star rabbi: 'Earthquakes come because of homosexuality'

In advance of tomorrow's special election in NY's 9th Congressional district, the National Organization For Marriage just launched a big robocall campaign against David Weprin/for Bob Turner. A campaign featuring this guy, Rabbi Zecharia Wallerstein:

"Why do you have earthquakes? The retribution for the sin of homosexuality"..."Earthquakes are caused by homosexuality."

*This* is who NOM trusts to get out the vote! Pretty remarkable, right?

But even more remarkable still: That this is the second NOM-affiliated rabbi -- THE SECOND ONE! -- in as many months to go on record saying that gays caused the earthquakes. Many of you remember that Rabbi Yehuda Levin -- who appeared arm-in-arm with NOM on the Albany state Capitol steps and who is still prominently featured in this video on NOM's YouTube page -- made the same claim in the days following the northeast quake. But at least with Levin, even NOM saw the wisdom in staying away from the quake comments. With Wallerstein: They recruit him for a press released, day-before-election, get-out-the-vote campaign!!

Regardless of the outcome of tomorrow's race, we've learned some interesting things over the past couple of weeks in terms of NOM and Jewish voter outreach. Apparently in NOM world, standing for basic civil equality constitutes a "defiance of Jewish law," but standing with those who pin natural disasters on gay people's love is perfectly kosher.
