Rep. Ilena Ros-Lehtinen (TheDarkSide-FL)
"[H]as joined the dark side." That's what the Family Research Council (in a post attributed to Tony Perkins) is saying of Republican Congresswoman Ileana Ros-Lehtinen, simply because she has come out in support of DOMA repeal and fair adoption practices:
Never a big fan of family issues, Florida Rep. Ileana Ros-Lehtinen (R ) has joined the dark side by becoming the first Republican to co-sponsor bills that boost counterfeit marriage while effectively closing down most Christian adoption services.
The Public DOMAin [FRC]
So let's see: The man who has previously likened gays to terrorists, called LGBT rights a battle of "good versus evil," said DADT repeal proponents are "willing to jeopardize our nation’s security to advance the agenda of the radical homosexual lobby," claimed gay teens kill themselves because they know that they're "abnormal," said the gay activists who challenge FRC are "held captive by the enemy," wrote that same-sex marriage will be "opening the door to all manner of moral and social evil, tweeted that gays don't need to "be a slave to feelings," and fundraised around the idea that gay kids are immoral and telling them otherwise is "disgusting" (R.I.P, Jamey Rodemeyer), is now accusing a Republican of joining "the dark side" simply because she rejects the partisan idea that elephants must deny gays of even the most basic of peanuts? And yet he still launches projects with hypocritical names like "Start Debating, Stop Hating," and still gets to rub shoulders with all of the GOP presidential candidates? Riiiiiight.
For now, Tony might get mileage out of the idea that Rep. Ros-Lehtinen is part of the Republican party's problem. But someday the party will wake up and see whose carelessness is really devaluing our country and its reasoned governance. Hopefully, at least.
