NJ: NOM again dividing Americans on basis of race

by Jeremy Hooper

We've seen it time and time again, NOM attempts to stir up animus on the basis of race. In New Jersey, it's "large number of African-Americans" they are specifically targeting:

Opponents of a gay marriage in New Jersey are mobilizing their supporters with a round of “robo-calls” against legislation that is set to get its first vetting Tuesday before a state senate committee.
...
Legislators have received more than 10,000 calls from those opposed since the same-sex marriage legislation was first announced by Democrats two weeks ago, Brown said. Many supporters are in the southern reaches of the state, along with areas with large number of African-Americans, he said.

We've seen it ever since Prop 8 when, just days after the vote, Maggie Gallagher began pitting "white liberal Jerry Brown" against "Black Californians." In other states it's been the supposed monolith that is "the Hispanic Church." We've even seen them go so far as to re-record ads, changing nothing but the voice over so that it sounds more specific to certain communities. Oh, and of course there was the extremely crude way they worked to splinter Jewish voters in New York's 9th Congressional District.

These are just some (but not even close to all) of the ways that they have taken this, a matter of fairness on the basis of sexual orientation/gender, and opportunistically stage-managed it into a race/ethnicity-particular feud.

NOM looks at this great American fabric of ours and seeks out any way they can to position gays as the knife hellbent on tearing it. Although if they keep overplaying their hands in the way that I know they will, I'm truly convinced that an increasingly aware public will see who's really working so carelessly to tear our communities to shreds.
