WA-scrimination 2.0: Stand For Marriage Washington gets new name, new stock photo families
They've found some stock photos and bought a new domain name. The Stand For Marriage Washington Coalition -- which under its old incarnation, had already positioned itself as quite extreme -- is now operating as Preserve Marriage Washington:
Personally I like how the kid on the far right of the clip art seems to be doing a Susanna Hoffs "Walk Like an Egyptian" routine. He or she seems like the rebel who will break from the heterosexist clutches and march in a pro-equality parade. I like that in a clip art kid.
But rebellious illustrations aside, I really have to wonder if the obvious animus of folks like Pastor Ken Hutcherson and previous Stand For Marriage Washington head Cindy Zapotocky might be the reason for this reboot. If so, I totally called it.
*NOTE: NOM is claiming that this is simply a unifying move which brings together the Family Policy Institute of Washington, Concerned Women For America, NOM, and the Stand For Marriage Washington team. But that makes absolutely no sense. The Stand For Marriage Washington effort was itself a coalition created for the sole purpose of unifying the movement, and it already included all of the aforementioned groups:
The only logical reason to change the earlier identity -- which already had a launch press conference, even -- is if that identity was doing damage.
