Churches as campaign HQs -- MD edition
The so-called Maryland Marriage Alliance has listed the places around the state where one can go to pick up petitions against civil marriage equality. Notice the one thing that connects them all:

Distribution Sites [MD Marriage Alliance]
See it? No, it's not that all the locations feature central air conditioning. No, it's not that all the petition places are built upon historical burial grounds. No, it's not that each of the twelve stops are also sites where one can pick up his or her Girl Scout Cookie shipment.
The actual connective tissue? Well, each and every petition pickup place is a faith-based operation, natch. Just as we've seen in most every state where these kinds of wars are waged against certain citizens' *CIVIL* rights, the Maryland Marriage Alliance is using a 100% church-steered drive towards repealing the state legislature's fair-minded action. Nakedly and proudly, they are using a religious view of marriage -- an optional component that no local activist is trying to stop or alter for anyone, pro-equality or not -- to stop same-sex couples from enjoying the shared civil component.
It continues to shock me that so few Americans care about this, one of the most dangerously consistent components of the "protect marriage" fight.
