Far-right's post-evolution stance: Outward 'Thanks!' to mask inner 'Oh sh*t!'
It's clear that the far-right has decided to take a "finally, we know!" approach in order to act like they are non-shocked and unshakened by the President's historic statement.
"The charade is now up"
—Rick Santorum
"[He] has finally come out of the closet, if you will"
—Tim Wildmon
"Morally this is good because lying to the American people is always wrong"
—Maggie Gallagher
"The President's announcement today that he supports legalizing same-sex marriage finally brings his words in sync with his actions."
—Tony Perkins
Don't buy it for a second! Anyone who advocates against the obvious inevitability that is marriage equality is truly freaked out by this major development. Oh, they will deny it up and down, and they will never break from the on-message strategizing to which they are so good at committing. But don't be fooled—today's development is a massive game changer that is going to get people talking and thinking in whole new ways. Taking and thinking are both boons to our side.
This same far-right crowd loves to condemn President Obama for being the world's biggest star. Well guess what? The world's biggest star just voiced his support for marriage equality, a position that is now his to have and to hold (and possibly even build on as we move FORWARD). Those of us who advocate for the fair and right thing always knew this to be a megaphone that none of us could even achieve collectively, much less individually, which is why we have pressed the President so hard on this "evolution." Today, he spoke. It's major for us; majorly threatening to the "protect marriage" cause.
