FLASHBACK: When Focus on the Family tempted God, unwittingly cursed the Republican Convention
Remember this Focus on the Family clip, which got so much attention back in the summer of 2008?
What's happened since? Well, the 2008 Democratic Convention went off without a hitch and Barack Obama became our 43rd President. Meanwhile, the 2008 GOP Convention was bombarded by Hurricane Gustav, turning into a very understated affair confined mostly to one night. And this week we learn that Hurricane Isaac might completely cancel (or at least relocated) the 2012 event.
Now, I of course don't really believe that Focus on the Family's resident video guy actually ticked off God, an apparent Democrat. However, I can't help but think of the outspoken anti-LGBT activists who would be gloating from the rooftops if the same sort of events greeted the pro-marriage-equality Democratic Party. We would be hearing all kinds of things about God's will and wrath, with much blame surely laid at the feet of advocates like myself.
So let me just say: Careful what you wish for, Stuart. They says God has a sense of humor—might he also have an Obama/Biden bumper sticker?
