IL's top 'protect marriage' guy pushes video condemning gays as 'broken'
As head of the Illinois Family Institute, David Smith is the local leader who works with national groups like the National Organization For Marriage and the American Family Association to lobby the state legislature on the subject of marriage. The truth, however, is that Mr. Smith is actually lobbying against gay people being, well, gay. Here is more proof of that:
In a Facebook post, Smith pushed (and defended, in the followup comments) this video from noted preacher John Piper:
So what's in the video? Well, it calls homosexuality a "struggle," "distortion, and "dysfunction," and attaches "idolatry" to gay people's "broken" and "unnatural" sexual orientation. In John Piper's world, gay people are to be "chaste" or be hellhound. Take a look:
Smith promoted it because he, like so many other "protect marriage" voices, truly believes it. His cause does not begin and will not end at just the marriage bill that's currently before the legislature. Smith, who has a long record of "ex-gay" advocacy, is rallying his supporters against the citizens of Illinois who happen to be LGBT. And not just against married LGBT humans but against LGBT humans—period.
And remember, this is *the* head of *the* "pro-family" policy group in the state. This is the same group that has hosted luminaries like Mike Huckabee and will soon host conservative star Ben Carson. This is not some disconnected voice; the IFI is the organized opposition movement in the Land of Lincoln.
When they blatantly tell us that their agenda goes far beyond our ring fingers, I choose to believe that they mean it.
