Opposition desperate to make equal civil rights seem like this year's 'Gangnam Style'

by Jeremy Hooper

Emily Kreps, writing for the Pennsylvania Family Council:

Even our own senator from Pennsylvania, Bob Casey, Jr. has turned his back on his Catholic faith and announces he now supports so-called “same-sex marriage” to appease the special-interest lobby. It’s the “cool thing to do.” [Focus on the Family]

That's how social conservatives are now talking about our equality under the law: like it's a trend. At an increasing clip, practitioners of the pro-discrimination movement are making it sound as if our supporters had a choice between full civil rights under the constitution or the One Direction fan club, with them choosing the former simply because it would involve fewer "Dear Harry…" letters and shriek-filled concerts. They make our families sound like trifling fads that one will find marked down on eBay in a decade or so.

The truth is that our equality is cool. Very cool. That is, in fact why our support is growing at such an astonishing rate: because when you realize how cool the right side of history is, you realize how pertinent it is to repudiate you past chilliness on this issue. Yes, politicians are watching the polls, but the polls are changing because everyday Americans are realizing that this is the fair and right thing to do. It is cool because it is the decent way. Because it is the only way.
